Requirements
  • Three to five years of related property claims experience.
  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • State licensing where required and successful completion of required or applicable claims certification training and classes are required.
  • General knowledge of insurance theory and practices, contracts, and their application is required.
  • Knowledge of property estimating and automated claims systems is required.
  • Proven knowledge of investigation, negotiation, and settlement activities used to resolve extensive property damage claims is required.
  • Experience with Xactimate, writing estimates, handling claims from start to finish, and residential construction, roofing, remodeling, or water mitigation is required.
  • The role requires customer service, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, written and verbal communication, negotiation, claims software, and personal computer skills.
  • A valid driver's license and safe driving record are required where the representative operates an automobile.
  • The role requires physical inspections of property loss sites, including climbing ladders, balancing at heights, stooping, bending, and crawling.
  • The role requires working outdoors in all types of weather, irregular or extended hours, possible on-call availability, travel, and availability for catastrophe assignments.
  • A valid credit check and/or background check is required as part of the selection process.
Responsibilities
  • Handle all assigned claims promptly and effectively through conclusion with little to no direction or oversight, making decisions within delegated authority and company policies.
  • Determine proper policy coverages and apply claims practices to conclude assigned cases in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Open, close, and adjust reserves, recommend special reserves when necessary, and follow reserving, file-conferencing, notification, and authority procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of insurance, applicable products and services, relevant court decisions, claims guidelines, and policy changes and modifications.
  • Maintain current knowledge of local industry repair procedures and local market pricing.
  • Submit severe incident reports, reinsurance reports, and other information to claims management as needed.
  • Partner with the Special Investigations Unit and Subrogation to identify fraud and subrogation opportunities, and assist with or prepare files for suit, trial, or subrogation.
  • Conduct follow-ups using claims systems and related business systems.
  • Deliver a positive customer service experience to internal, external, current, and prospective customers.
  • Provide leadership to less experienced claims associates.
