Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is required.
  • A minimum of 7+ years of technical experience in protection engineering or a related field is required.
  • Expert knowledge of engineering and design, national and international standards, and compliance requirements associated with power system protection is required.
  • Knowledge of planning, operations, engineering design, analytical modeling, calculations, construction, engineering documentation, and regulatory and compliance requirements is required.
  • Ability to review and approve engineering work completed by others for compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements is required.
Responsibilities
  • Guide engineering design, estimating, and analysis of electric transmission and substation protection systems in support of capital construction budgets and system performance objectives.
  • Manage protection system platforms, including settings, testing, and commissioning developed internally and by contractors and consultants.
  • Develop the system protection platform, including integration, settings, networking, engineering criteria, construction standards, design and equipment specifications, integration schemes, automation configurations, commissioning plans, and supplier and contractor requirements.
  • Coordinate the system protection platform with global affiliates.
  • Oversee evaluation and demonstration of new technology for safety, cost, and efficiency improvements, and implement technology to enhance power system performance.
  • Oversee engineering studies evaluating equipment and protection system performance and effectiveness, analyze operational issues, and apply engineering judgment to solve complex technical problems.
  • Develop and validate information needed for engineering analyses.
  • Analyze transmission fault event operations to confirm that protection schemes operated as intended.
  • Prepare clear fault analysis reports for management, including corrective actions and lessons learned when necessary.
  • Represent the company on regional and national committees.
  • Lead and guide the technical development of the Protection Engineering group.
  • Provide consultation as the primary protection engineering expert within the United States organization on complex technical, technological, regulatory, and political issues.
  • Work across operating companies, global affiliates, internal departments, external organizations, contractors, and agencies.
  • Influence and guide department engineers and provide technical leadership on complex projects with broad departmental impact.
  • Mentor, develop, and support the team in technical skills.
  • Direct contractors regarding company policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Ensure protection system standards and designs comply with applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards.
  • Contribute to the development of system protection strategy.

Iberdrola picks ICEYE's SAR satellites to protect grid from extreme weather

Iberdrola has selected ICEYE to strengthen its electricity grid against extreme weather events using synthetic aperture radar satellite technology and near real-time data. The solution will help anticipate risks including floods, fires and strong winds, assess damage quickly and minimise impact on electricity supply. The initiative won a New-Tech Challenge within Iberdrola's PERSEO innovation programme, receiving over 40 proposals from ten countries. The 12-month pilot will launch in Spain, with ICEYE's Flood Solutions Suite providing forecasting, rapid impact assessment and flood insights. The deployment also includes wind damage assessment solutions for Iberdrola's assets in the United States and Australia. ICEYE's SAR technology can capture high-resolution imagery through smoke and storm clouds, enabling continuous monitoring in all weather conditions day or night.

Wallbox restructures $191.5M debt with Spanish banks as Catalan government takes stake

Wallbox, the Barcelona-based electric vehicle charging systems company, has closed a debt restructuring agreement worth €169.5 million with creditors representing over 83% of its financial debt. The deal includes a capital increase that will bring the Generalitat of Catalonia in as a shareholder. The agreement, pending judicial approval and scheduled for signing on 8 April, restructures existing debt into a €57.6 million framework loan and a €69.1 million bullet instrument, both maturing in December 2030. A working capital agreement of approximately €42.8 million was also reached. The restructuring includes a €10.65 million capital increase, with strategic shareholders contributing €5.65 million and the Generalitat adding €5 million. Participating banks will provide €12.5 million in new financing. CEO Enric Asunción said the agreement strengthens Wallbox's financial position.
