Requirements
  • A four-year college degree, preferably in accounting, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Five to ten years of employment in a related position.
  • Knowledge of all hotel accounting functions performed by subordinate staff reporting directly or indirectly.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting, finance, and hospitality.
  • Ability to analyze activities or information involving original data manipulation or interpretation to reach logical conclusions.
  • Knowledge of office management, bank reconciliations, preparation of state and federal reports, accounting staff training, meetings, balance sheet account analysis, journal entries, closing the books, and preparing the balance sheet package.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry boxes and computer equipment weighing up to 15–20 pounds.
  • Ability to perform limited bending and kneeling when arranging supplies or equipment.
  • Ability to move between offices and departments, with no continuous standing, climbing, or driving.
  • Excellent hearing to train and interact with management and associates.
  • Excellent vision to read reports and use computers.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the financial leader and steward across both hotel properties.
  • Assist department leaders with operations and special projects, identify risks, and present solutions that support financially effective decisions.
  • Develop the annual operating budget, operating plan, and financial goals.
  • Achieve budgeted revenues, costs, and profits through accounting diligence, expenditure controls, and proficient accounting practices.
  • Set written quarterly priorities and key objectives for each department head, including action plans and completion dates.
  • Follow up on assigned objectives, ensure implementation, and take corrective action when objectives are not met.
  • Forecast operating staff and cost expenditures monthly.
  • Conduct business planning in line with forecasted sales and costs and guide department heads.
  • Review financial statements monthly to correct problems, ensure spending alignment, and plan for future business.
  • Review and approve expenses in other-expense categories across departments.
  • Review major expenses regularly to ensure funds are wisely expended.
  • Promote associate morale and loyalty, communicate with staff, counsel associates, and assist with staff development.
  • Maintain visibility and availability to associates in accordance with the open-door policy.
  • Attend monthly department employee meetings when possible.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and personal development plans for management staff.
  • Identify substandard performance among managers and outline improvement actions, including corrective or disciplinary measures.
  • Ensure hotel management personnel meet required levels of experience, knowledge, and ability.
  • Review cost controls and ensure adherence to protect hotel property and assets.
  • Review sales solicitation activities, room-night productivity, and group room rates sold by sales.
  • Review individual productivity and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Evaluate market mix and take action to position the hotels for increased business.
  • Support sales solicitation for key accounts by reviewing contracts, meeting with the sales department, and visiting key-account contacts in person and by phone.
  • Implement internal control procedures that safeguard leaders, owners, and assets and comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reports to leadership and corporate.

Sage will oversee daily operations of the property, originally constructed in 1906 as a Masonic Temple, including management of the hotel’s restaurant and rooftop bar.
