Requirements
  • At least 3 years of professional software development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience independently turning fuzzy, ambiguous problems into working, shipped features.
  • Comfort moving between languages and parts of the software stack, with willingness to learn OCaml.
  • A strong commitment to improving code quality while balancing engineering momentum.
  • Willingness to work in person with a small team where product and engineering responsibilities overlap.
Responsibilities
  • Work across a monorepo spanning an OCaml compiler, Python backend services, and a TypeScript/React protocol editor.
  • Model, implement, and ship solutions for complex interdisciplinary problems involving scientific protocols, context-sensitive language problems, domain expertise, deterministic correctness, and optimization.
  • Observe real scientists using the software and iterate on the shipped product.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience or interest in domain-specific languages, language design, and projectional editors.
  • Background in the life sciences, laboratory automation, or software work in a domain where users are experts in a subject unfamiliar to the engineer.
  • Experience with OCaml or other ML-family languages, including Haskell, F#, or Rust's type system.
  • Experience with Next.js, Tailwind, FastAPI, NeonDB, and Zustand.
  • Experience or interest in compilers, interpreters, heuristic algorithms, and optimizing systems, especially unconventional and domain-specific tools.
  • Familiarity with large-language-model-in-the-loop systems, including parsing, structured extraction, and evaluations.
  • Startup or small-team experience, especially at an earlier stage.

Tetsuwan Scientific develops AI-powered laboratory scientists by integrating artificial intelligence with robotic lab systems and natural language processing to automate high-complexity experiments for research institutions. Its AI scientist combines planning software, a robotic execution platform, and NLP interfaces to design, run, and analyze experiments end-to-end, continually optimizing methods based on results. The company differentiates itself by treating the research workflow as a unified AI-driven system rather than just automating individual tasks. Its goal is to accelerate scientific discovery and address global challenges by providing scalable AI-assisted research capabilities to universities, national labs, and private research institutions.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Tetsuwan posted a 2026 software-engineer opening, signaling active product development and hiring.
  • Its June 2026 messaging says cloud-lab workflows now reach thousands of ideas.
  • 2024 coverage said ResearchOS connected Claude to wet labs, validating AI integration.

What critics are saying

  • A $2.66 million seed round in May 2024 leaves little runway for hardware-heavy scaling.
  • Customer concentration risk is acute; 2024 reporting named only La Jolla Labs.
  • If ResearchOS misses robust lab automation, Tetsuwan becomes a demo, not a business.

What makes Tetsuwan Scientific unique

  • ResearchOS compiles experiment descriptions into robot-executable scripts, unlike generic lab software.
  • Tetsuwan's 2024 product targets cloud labs, not humanoid robotics, reducing hardware complexity.
  • Founded in 2023, it markets an AI scientist interface for biological experimentation.
