Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required; Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressive engineering experience is required.
  • Familiarity with automotive, commercial, or heavy-duty vehicle design is required; direct experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Bills of Materials, documentation control, and revision/version management is required; configure-to-order products and modular Bills of Materials experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of harness design and formboard drawing creation, with fluency in computer-aided design software such as Zuken or Capital, is required.
  • Experience working with major component suppliers, engineering service suppliers, testing suppliers, and product validation engineers is required.
  • Hands-on experience with direct component design, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Service, and value engineering is required.
  • Hands-on experience with vehicle harnessing, component integration, discrete signals, CAN bus, antenna systems, and voice and data radio systems is required.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting, product assembly, prototyping, testing, and validation experience is required, using multimeters, power supplies, CANalyzer, and oscilloscopes to identify and resolve electrical-system issues.
  • Knowledge of radio-frequency interference, electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic interference, electrostatic discharge, or stationary/mobile broadcast systems is beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical systems using multimeters, power supplies, CANalyzer, and oscilloscopes is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform requirements analysis, concept design, detailed design, problem resolution, vehicle-attribute design, Bills of Materials development, customer-application research, and other engineering duties for heavy-duty transit buses.
  • Design, configure, and industrialize electrical systems for the manufacture of heavy-duty transit buses.
  • Influence systems- and component-level decisions to optimize vehicle functionality and performance attributes.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials, define the application of parts and assemblies, and provide input on modular Bills of Materials structures to improve configuration efficiency.
  • Gather information about supplier components, existing designs, and technological advancements to rationalize and optimize design concepts.
  • Use analytical tools to assess electrical designs, including power, grounding, circuit protection, electromagnetic compatibility, signal integrity, and thermal management.
  • Perform design trade-offs and optimization to develop robust, manufacturable, and maintainable design concepts.
  • Use electronic computer-aided design tools to create, review, and release vehicle components, schematics, and harness assemblies.
  • Manage Customer and Design REI releases, including Bills of Materials structuring, change control, Production Change Orders, and Engineered Production Changes.
  • Support designs throughout the lifecycle, including development, production launch, variant designs, customization, and field support.
  • Work with test engineers to create Design Verification Plan and Report documents, execute defined test plans, and review test results and reports.
  • Provide technical input to technical publications.
  • Collaborate and iterate on designs with mechanical, controls, and manufacturing engineers and production personnel.
  • Propose solutions to senior engineers or management for evaluation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with configure-to-order products and modular Bills of Materials management.
  • Direct automotive, commercial, or heavy-duty vehicle design experience.
  • Prior experience with infotainment systems, Computer-Aided Dispatch, Automatic Vehicle Location, and Automatic Vehicle Monitoring technologies.
  • Knowledge of radio-frequency interference, electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic interference, electrostatic discharge, or stationary/mobile broadcast systems.
