Requirements
  • Vocational or Technical School training in the field of Locksmithing
  • 48 months experience in commercial and/or residential Locksmithing
  • 54 months of related experience in lieu of Vocational or Technical School
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for leading and assigning employees to each job and ensuring materials and supplies are available to install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot locks, keys, key systems, card systems and associated hardware.
  • Assists with the performance management of team members include training and mentoring.
  • Troubleshoots all electrical motors and controls, elevators, electric wiring, lights, circuits, and various other electrical equipment to identify hazards, defects, or the need for repairs, adjustments, or replacement to ensure compliance with code.
  • Prepares cost estimates and discusses repair or replacement costs with supervisor.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs all types of locks and locking mechanisms on campus to conform with current Federal, State, and campus safety and security regulations.
  • Advises on decisions concerning keying and security of new construction and remodels.
  • Prepares labor and materials estimates for repairs, renovations, and new buildings.
  • Estimates, orders, and maintains inventory for key, lock, and other exit devices.
  • Maintains records for the lock shop including floor plans, access controls, and master key systems, ensures accurate and current information.
  • Cuts, duplicates, programs, and issues keys.
  • Interprets keying guidelines.
  • Uses appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the University's master key system while meeting customer requests.
  • Continues to stay abreast of changing technologies, procedures, and products by reading trade journals, operating manuals, and attending workshops or seminars.
  • Participates in training and educational activities.
  • Trains employees on procedures and how to operate equipment.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position to include assisting any skilled trade.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of keys, keyways, key manufacturers, key duplication machines, and key duplication techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of function, grades, and the methods of installation of locking hardware
  • Ability to maintain records
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools common to trade
  • Ability to cut and issue keys, re-key, install, and repair locks and hardware
  • Knowledge of key codes and master keying techniques
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Ability to identify complex problems, develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions
  • Ability lead team members and communicate directions and expectations effectively
