Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience shipping production machine-learning systems.
  • Prior experience architecting end-to-end machine-learning systems deployed to an end customer.
  • Hands-on experience across multiple machine-learning paradigms, such as classical machine learning, deep learning, probabilistic methods, and generative artificial intelligence.
Responsibilities
  • Understand the customer's mission and use those insights to inform architectural decisions.
  • Partner with engineers to identify the right data for models, find substitutes when data does not exist, and propose better alternatives when appropriate.
  • Hypothesize, test, and compare model approaches, including causal inference, superforecasting, deep neural networks, and Bayesian methods.
  • Evaluate models with quantitative rigor and assess whether their outputs are useful for the mission.
  • Configure and monitor end-to-end machine-learning systems and establish MLOps pipelines that detect drift and degradation.
  • Architect end-to-end machine-learning systems for reliable production use beyond notebook environments.
  • Monitor models in production and partner with DevSecOps when issues occur.
  • Work with the forward-deployed team to determine how predictions are presented to end users.
  • Explain technical work and model outputs clearly to government stakeholders and engineers so users understand and can act on them.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced degree in computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Prior experience building machine-learning models in a startup environment is preferred.
  • Writing, talks, or documentation that explains technical work to non-technical audiences is preferred.
  • Prior experience in defense is a nice-to-have.

Manifold Industries provides on-demand robotic labor for warehouses through a robotics-as-a-service model that uses autonomous mobile robots for tasks like case picking, trailer loading/unloading, and palletizing. The robots feature a 6-DOF arm with suction grippers and a sensor suite (cameras and LiDAR) powered by an AI autonomy stack for mapping, localization, perception, and motion planning, with a human-in-the-loop system for remote supervision and exception handling. The service avoids upfront capital costs and lengthy integrations by offering rapid deployment (hours) and a priced-by-pick model, plus remote support and continuous improvement from operation data. Its goal is to make warehouse automation affordable and scalable in the U.S. by reducing cost and complexity and expanding the use of autonomous logistics.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • YC's August 2026 launch says Manifold already ran 5 million picks.
  • Manifold targets the $75 billion U.S. warehouse labor spend and 90% non-automated sites.
  • Case picking, trailer unloading, and palletizing span many repetitive warehouse labor workflows.

What critics are saying

  • Locus Robotics passed seven billion picks in March 2026, dwarfing Manifold's scale.
  • Mytra raised $120 million in January 2026, intensifying automation competition and customer bidding.
  • If remote-supervised deployments stay manual, Manifold becomes a demo-only hardware startup.

What makes Manifold Industries unique

  • Priced-by-pick RaaS removes warehouse capex and integration friction, unlike traditional robotics vendors.
  • Manifold deploys in hours into existing workflows, not months-long retrofit projects.
  • The system combines 6-DOF arms, LiDAR, and human-in-loop exception handling.
