Kent is seeking a Project Electrical Lead to support engineering scopes in Data Centers and Power Generation projects. Reporting to the Electrical & Instrumentation Discipline Manager, this role requires a strong technical foundation in High Voltage electrical engineering, hands-on experience with power distribution systems, and proven leadership in guiding multidisciplinary engineering and design teams. The Project Electrical Lead will manage electrical deliverables, lead design and procurement activities, provide technical direction, and ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget. This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on coordination, problem-solving, and client/vendor interface.

Responsibilities:
- Act as the project electrical engineering lead on assigned projects and proposals, taking full ownership of delivering the complete electrical scope of work.
- Assign tasks to project staff and manage discipline workload, progress, schedule, and budget.
- Establish project scope, prepare effort‑hour estimates, and develop electrical deliverable lists.
- Supervise, mentor, coach, and support engineers and designers across project teams.
- Represent the engineering team in client, project management, and vendor meetings and communications.
- Lead and perform engineering and design quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements and standards.
- Design Single Line Diagrams for electrical substations up to 240kV, including Protection, Control & Metering (PC&M) diagrams.
- Perform complex electrical engineering calculations and apply applicable codes, standards, and specifications independently.
- Define Hazardous area classifications (HAC), develop associated reports and schedules, and perform fugitive emission calculations.
- Review project team engineering and design deliverables (i.e., Substation, E‑house, Cable tray routing, Underground, Grounding, and lighting layouts), Schematics and wiring diagrams, etc.)
- Review and support EHT (Electrical Heat Tracing) design and calculations.
- Provide procurement support as the Responsible Engineer (RE), including preparation of electrical equipment specifications, datasheets, requisitions, and technical bid evaluations.
- Review vendor documents to ensure specifications and data sheet requirements are met.
- Perform electrical system studies using ETAP or SKM (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonic analysis, motor starting, relay coordination, relay settings).
- Program GE and SEL relays using vendor software.
- Provide electrical BOMs / MTOs and cost inputs for capital cost estimates.
- Review designs for constructability and alignment with project and client requirements.
- Conduct field visits to verify existing drawings and confirm tie-in locations.
- Collaborate with workshare teams or HVEC (High-Value Engineering Centres) to complete electrical deliverables.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs).

These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada.
- 15+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical, or power generation industries.
- Previous experience in a client-facing role.
- Knowledge of domestic and international codes and standards (CEC, CSA, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, API, NEMA).
- Experience across all project stages: Conceptual, Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Engineering.
- Experience managing vendor packages (substations, e-houses, transformers, VFDs, etc.) as a Responsible Engineer (RE) is considered an asset.
- Experience with high-voltage design, ETAP or SKM, lightning protection, or E-house design is considered an asset.
- Experience performing EHT calculations using Thermon or nVent software is considered an asset.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Self-motivated, organized, team-oriented, and able to deliver high-quality work under pressure.
- Experience with Data Center or Power Generation Projects will be an asset.

- Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication.
