Internship Program Overview: Our 2025 Summer Internship Program is a paid 10-12-week internship program, scheduled to begin on June 2, 2025. Interns are expected to work full-time throughout the summer.
Summer interns will join an intern class consisting of undergraduate and graduate students to work on exciting projects in one of EDC’s many dynamic departments. Summer Interns will also participate in training programs, networking events, and other professional development opportunities over the course of the program.
Our Summer 2025 Internship Program application deadline is Monday, December 2. All materials must be submitted by EOD that date – incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Department Overview: The Strategy department is a high-performing and versatile team that shapes NYCEDC and City Government strategy and policy across diverse topic areas that are front-of-mind for senior stakeholders. Our work falls into four categories:
- Strategy & change management: Assist senior leaders with shaping NYCEDC’s vision and setting the organization’s strategy and direction, e.g. lead an annual organization-wide goal-setting process
- Foresight & collaborative ideation: Provide NYCEDC with foresight of looming policy issues and supporting our colleagues in advancing high-potential ideas, e.g. develop a strategy and roadmap to build an offshore wind industry in NYC
- Program design & execution: Design and develop interdisciplinary, cross-departmental programs of work, e.g. co-develop programs to enable the growth of a legal, equitable cannabis industry in NYC
- Special projects: Provide advice and support to NYCEDC leadership and City Hall for urgent and complex projects, e.g. develop specific pandemic response and economic recovery initiatives
Intern Responsibilities:
With support from their supervisor, complete a research project from start to finish, which can include:
- Learning about the topic of their research project and preparing a scope of work that outlines how they plan to prepare the research memo
- Gathering qualitative and quantitative data (including desktop research and interviews), and conducting analysis (including financial modelling, as needed)
- Developing policy recommendations as required by specific project assignments
- Creating a PowerPoint presentation / memo that communicate key project findings and recommendations
- Present outputs from their research project to EDC’s senior staff
The intern may also be asked to take up other duties to support ongoing Strategy team projects
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Preferred field(s) of study: Public Policy, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Entrepreneurship
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC
- Demonstrated written, verbal, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated experience in using database and presentation tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines
- Ability to work in collaborative, cross-functional teams
- Ability to work full-time, Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM and complete the entirety of the 10-week program
Salary Target: $19.00/hour (undergraduate-level students); $24.00/hour (graduate-level students)
