About the Role
The Core Platform Foundations team owns defining, monitoring, and controlling operations for the infrastructure that supports Uber’s virtual computing environments. We are the lowest software layer abstracting the underlying fleet of hosts whether on prem or on the cloud, and as such we are the guardians of quality and security of the production host.
As TLM of the Host Lifecycle team under Foundations, you will lead a team of software engineers responsible for base host provisioning and new sku adoption, zone turn up and decom, and strategic zonal projects including multi-zone and disaster recovery operations.
You will work closely with teams in California, Seattle, Denmark and Amsterdam to align roadmaps, business goals, and maintain clear career paths for each engineer - it will be critical to foster a team environment that collaborates closely with remote offices.

Manager responsibilities 70%:
- Establish and project manage projects and roadmaps that meet the overall Core Infra and Foundations vision
- Grow, coach, and develop a team of skilled software engineers. Help them meet their career goals, and drive their performance reviews.
- Define the engineering culture and uphold the processes that will shape the future of the team
Tech Lead responsibilities 30%:
- Contribute / drive / review technical design docs
- Ensure operational excellence of the team including the operations of a variety of critical production infra services and systems and fielding stakeholder pain points
---- Basic Qualifications ----
- 3+ years of backend software engineering experience and Bachelor degree (or higher) in Computer Science or related field of study.
- Experience in backend and systems development
- Experience operating production / live services
- Expertise in one or more object-oriented programming languages (Go, Java, Python).
---- Preferred Qualifications ----
- Experience implementing complex projects with multiple dependencies.
- Experience with large-scale, distributed systems development
- Experience working with cloud provider VMs
- Experience with Linux and Debian (tools, libs, settings), debugging at the kernel / OS level
- Experience with or just fearless curiosity to dive into low level systems

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.
