  • Demonstrates an understanding of arithmetic.
  • Must have at least one year of experience with demonstrated success in a position in the facility or in another related health care facility.
Responsibilities
  • Complete day-to-day tasks regarding admission, discharge, and transfer of residents in accordance with local, state, and federal standards, regulations, and facility policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the relationship between the business office and admissions office to support facility occupancy and collections goals.
  • Perform daily admissions-office duties assigned by the Admissions Director to convert referrals to admission status.
  • Track the status of each referral.
  • Communicate with external team members regarding referral status and additional information needed for admission decisions.
  • Communicate with the Business Office to complete financial evaluations for potential residents and determine payment options, including printing the Common Working File, printing Medicaid eligibility information, and identifying pay status before admission.
  • Identify payment entities requiring prior authorization and secure authorization when required.
  • Maintain working knowledge of pay-status practices for other insurance, Medicare A, Medicaid, private payment, Veterans Administration contracts, and hospital contracts.
  • Complete mental health screenings when required by federal and state regulations before admission.
  • Process referrals promptly each day as assigned by the Admissions Director.
  • Ensure residents are admitted, transferred, and discharged accurately in the facility software.
  • Record resident pay-status changes in the facility's daily census communication tool.
  • Record resident pay status accurately in the resident record at admission.
  • Meet with potential residents and representatives and provide facility information.
  • Provide facility tours to potential residents and representatives.
  • Use the telephone to communicate with families, residents, hospitals, and insurance companies about referral processing.
  • Use a computer, electronic medical record, spreadsheets, and other referral-processing tools throughout the day.
  • Complete and file admission paperwork according to facility policy.
  • Inform the Admissions Director of obstacles or barriers to admitting residents.
  • Maintain daily referral-tracking information as assigned by the Admissions Director.
  • Communicate with interdisciplinary team members about room assignments for pending admissions.
  • Participate in facility assessment activities, including duties assigned through a performance improvement committee.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, family members, hospitals, and community representatives to resolve issues and improve the admissions process.
  • Participate in the facility's plan-of-correction response to an inspection survey and implement follow-up assigned by the Admissions Director.
  • Promote safe work practices, safety rules, and accident-prevention procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of insurance coverage and the authorization process for long-term care is helpful.
