Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a relevant technical discipline with three years of relevant work experience, a master's degree in Computer Science or a relevant technical discipline with one year of relevant work experience, or a PhD in Computer Science or another relevant technical discipline; other technical educational backgrounds may be considered with equivalent experience.
  • Previous penetration testing, red teaming, or exploit development experience is required.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one command-and-control framework, such as Cobalt Strike or Sliver, is required.
  • Experience programming or scripting in Python, C, and Bash is required, along with willingness to learn PowerShell.
  • Experience with reverse-engineering tools such as NSA Ghidra or IDA Pro is required.
  • Ability to read code and quickly identify basic vulnerabilities without relying on artificial intelligence or fuzzing is required.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and all layers of the OSI model is required, including experience using Wireshark and explaining common network protocols.
  • Experience assessing the security of Linux and Windows systems is required.
  • At least one relevant certification is required, such as OSCP, CPTS, FORGE/RIOT, eJPT, CBBH, BSCP, PNPT, GRTP, or GPEN; equivalent experience demonstrated during technical interviews may substitute.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of War security clearance is required.
  • Willingness to travel 25% outside the office location is required.
Responsibilities
  • Red team real-world artificial-intelligence-enabled systems, including the model and the hardware, software, and network on which it runs, in support of national security objectives.
  • Develop new tactics, techniques, and procedures for attacking artificial-intelligence-enabled systems and related software to better prepare defenders for real-world threats.
  • Write tools in Python, PowerShell, C, and Bash to enable red-team operations.
  • Represent the CERT technical portfolio of work and operations and communicate with external mission partners and internal collaborators in coordination with CERT directorates and teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with mobile operating systems such as Android and other operating systems is appreciated.
  • Experience with capture-the-flag competitions may be relevant for Assistant and Associate levels.
  • Graduate-level technical coursework or technical certifications are pursued by many members of the red team.
