CACI is seeking a highly motivated summer intern enrolled in an Unmanned Aircraft Systems or related program to join our team.

As a UAS Composite Engineer Intern, you will play a key role in developing and refining composite layup schedules, assisting with prototype design, and contributing to various aspects of UAS manufacturing.

What You’ll Get to Do:

• Review engineering designs to develop composite layup schedules for UAS components.
• Assist in prototype design based on customer requirements and contribute to the development of associated design and technical packages.
• Identify and source all required components for assigned UAS projects.
• Apply an innovative and mechanically oriented mindset to improve processes and promote quality in UAS manufacturing.
• Assist in preparing molds for wet and pre-preg layups, ensuring proper release without damage.
• Utilize hand-lamination, infusion setup, and prepreg techniques for fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar, etc.
• Work with various layup techniques and core materials, including balsa, foam, and honeycomb.
• Apply bagging techniques and materials for wet layups, infusions, and prepreg, including the use of pleats, release layers, peel plies, and more.
• Assist in finishing composite parts for bonding, painting, or other finishing techniques.
• Use power tools such as hand drills, circular saws, sanders, Dremels, and more for composite fabrication.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

• Must be enrolled in an Unmanned Aircraft Systems or related program.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearance.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for pushing the boundaries of technology.
• Experience with fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar layups, and repairs.
• Knowledge of multiple layup techniques and core materials.
• Familiarity with bagging techniques and materials for wet layups, infusions, and prepreg.
• Experience embedding parts into layups for additional strength and functionality.
• Proficiency with power tools commonly used in composite fabrication.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

• Experience with COTS multi-rotor and fixed-wing aircraft, including hobbyist UAS experience.
• Familiarity with a range of materials and components used in UAV construction, such as carbon fiber, aluminum alloys, and various power plants.
• Experience / familiarity with the design and construction of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)
• Familiarity with desktop 3D printers, CNC machines, hot wire cutters, and laser cutters.
