Requirements
  • Technical diploma in Dental Assisting with an expectation to obtain an Associate's degree (in any field) within 3 years.
  • If teaching transfer courses, must be a graduate of a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, two (2) years or 4,000 hours of work experience in dental hygiene, and have a Bachelor's degree in any field.
  • Two (2) years or 4,000 hours of work experience in dental assisting.
  • Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including the use of distance education and other methods of alternative delivery.
  • Skill in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods.
  • Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds, as well as individuals with disabilities.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Ability to interact with business and industry to establish partnerships.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for instruction of dental assistant courses.
  • Develop and plan appropriate instructional and alternative delivery strategies when appropriate.
  • Instruct students in classes and participate in college service activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters.
  • Evaluate student performance in courses taught by the instructor.
  • Actively work with other personnel in student recruitment, retention and job placement.
  • Develop and maintain curriculum in collaboration with department/division staff.
  • Participate in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs and other divisions of instruction.
  • Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc.
  • Assist students in developing work experience assignments such as internships, work study assignments, team projects, etc.
  • Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
  • Comply with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
  • Attend division, department and advisory committee meetings.
  • Develop strategies aimed at the retention of minority/female students.
  • Participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness, technology training, etc.
  • Design curriculum and instruct in a variety of non-traditional formats to meet student and business needs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the college’s mission, vision and values.
