The Role
We’re looking for an eager, collaborative, and problem-solving User Experience (UX) Design Intern to join our Product Design team at CompanyCam for the Summer 2025 session (May 20, 2025 - August 22, 2025)! As a design intern, you will be introduced to the world of in-house product design and gain hands-on experience using user-centered design methodologies. During your internship, you’ll explore research techniques, wireframing, and prototyping and participate in cross-functional collaboration with other members of Product and Engineering. We’re looking for an intern who is eager to apply their learnings to real-life problems and ready to make meaningful contributions to our product team and CompanyCam application.
Location: Candidates must currently reside in Lincoln, Nebraska, or the surrounding metro area. You are not required to work in the office on a regular cadence, but in-office attendance is encouraged.
What You’ll Do
- Assist in creating low-fidelity mockups, wireframes, and prototypes under the guidance of senior designers. Your work might end up in our product!
- Help conduct user research interviews and usability sessions by taking notes and contributing to synthesizing findings.
- Present early design concepts and gather feedback from cross-functional team members.
- Communicate design rationale clearly to cross-functional team members.
- Meaningfully contribute to the design process by observing and practicing fundamental problem-solving techniques to address real product challenges.
- Learn how to effectively apply design systems and style guides to ensure consistency across features.
- Collaborate with experienced product designers, proactively asking questions and acting on feedback.
- Actively take part in team discussions and critique sessions, sharing ideas and insights.
What You’ll Bring
- Basic knowledge of design principles (user experience, visual design, or similar).
- 1+ years working with design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, or similar).
- A passion for applying educational principles to real-world problems within design.
- A foundational understanding of user-centered design.
- Comfort with iterative design—willingness to refine work based on insights from research or critique.
- Basic familiarity with wireframing, prototyping, and design thinking approaches.
- Strong communication—able to present ideas and receive feedback graciously.
- Experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
- A junior- or senior-level undergraduate, or a master’s student, who is currently pursuing or has completed a formal education/certification in Human-Computer Interaction, Product Design, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Basic exposure to front-end web or mobile development is a bonus (but not required).
- A continuous growth-mindset, with a focus on learning, embracing challenges, and continuously improving.
- A knack for creativity and innovation, bringing fresh ideas to the table and solving complex problems.
