Requirements
  • Certified Flight Instructor – Airplane (CFI) certification is required.
  • A valid medical certificate is required.
  • Knowledge of instructor certification appropriate to the position sought is required.
  • Knowledge of flight instruction instrumentation and equipment is required.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct quality flight instruction required in the professional pilot programs at Saint Louis University.
  • Participate in standardization training for each course taught and each piece of equipment used in instruction.
  • Maintain flight proficiency for each course instructed.
  • Adhere to all Federal Aviation Administration regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Research new and improved teaching techniques.
  • Meet with each student according to the published schedule.
  • Ensure that all flight lessons are completed according to the Training Course Outline specifications.
  • Ensure that all appropriate endorsements are made in the student's flight book and personal logbook.
  • Submit requests for stage checks upon completion of each stage of flight training to the Office Supervisor.
  • Ensure that all flight lessons and flight books are completed before requesting a stage check.
  • Ensure that all training activities, flights, and briefings are conducted during normal business hours.
  • Pull aircraft in and out of the hangar.
  • Help tie down aircraft.
  • Assist in departmental activities and attend meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (CFII) or Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) certificate is preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
