Requirements
  • A minimum of three to five years of experience in industrial refrigeration applications involving ammonia and carbon dioxide refrigeration systems.
  • Good knowledge of ASME, ANSI, and applicable codes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and engineering design and drawing software.
  • Experience using AutoCAD to develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams and layout drawings.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate, influence, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to work remotely when not located in Calgary.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective time management skills and accountability for several large, complex projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities
  • Develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagram drawings, piping drawings, general arrangement drawings, layout drawings, vessel drawings, and bridle drawings.
  • Prepare project documentation, including operating and control descriptions.
  • Define design requirements with clients and owners for each system.
  • Complete heat load calculations to size systems.
  • Develop conceptual refrigeration system designs.
  • Size and select major equipment, including vessels, compressors, evaporators, valves, pumps, and chillers.
  • Perform piping design, including sizing, pipe layout, and selection of appropriate piping materials and fabrication methods.
  • Coordinate the design of control systems, supporting electrical infrastructure, and ammonia detection systems.
  • Design and analyze heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems for refrigeration machine rooms.
  • Work with internal or external piping designers to develop three-dimensional models of refrigeration systems and piping.
  • Keep current with developments in the refrigeration industry through relevant journals, specialized training, industry conferences, and courses.
  • Provide engineering support to Service, Sales, and Project groups as required.
  • Work directly with the Director of Engineering on the design and execution of projects.
  • Respond to bid technical clarifications during the sales cycle.
  • Coordinate the design of buildings and supporting infrastructure with refrigeration system design in collaboration with owners, consultants, general contractors, and clients.
  • Develop project bills of materials and approve project drawings.
  • Support the service group with commissioning and field issues.
  • Resolve issues, provide direction, and conduct quality assurance checks on project deliverables.
  • Assist with training and mentoring engineers in training.
Desired Qualifications
  • P.Eng. or PE designation.
  • Five to seven years of experience with rotating equipment, heat exchangers, or pressure piping.
  • Knowledge of CSA B-52 or IIAR codes.
  • Fabrication or construction experience.
