You will be a senior member of the technology and product development team within the Acute Care Monitoring (ACM) Business Unit, McGRATH Franchise. Specifically, you will join a high-growth R&D team focused on creating category-redefining products that truly address unmet customer needs in the airway management domain. Our team originated from Medtronic’s acquisition of Aircraft Medical, which designed the McGrath Mac Video Laryngoscope. The team is design-led and follows a human-centered design process to deliver thoughtful and inspiring products.

Every day, you’ll be collaborating with other designers, design researchers, clinical scientists, marketers, engineers from multiple disciplines, and manufacturing experts, all with a “can do, will do” spirit.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be a key contributor to our design-centric product development process. Through the design journey, you will work with cross-functional teams to create thoughtful and user-friendly solutions that positively impact clinicians and patients who are the end users we serve.
You will be a senior member of the technology and/or product development team that supports the design and development of innovative, new products within ACM, specifically focusing on airway management. You will apply advanced technical strategy and concepts to solve complex problems and distill these down to simple, elegant product offerings which strike the appropriate balance of functionality and user engagement. We count on you to strengthen our procedural fluency in your specialty and to push the edges of how we produce beautiful products that inspire both internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities Include:
Lead and maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to the development of airway management devices.
Develop and implement early phase mechanical concept design, perform tolerance analysis, finite element analysis, or other design analysis.
Design components to be manufactured via plastic injection molding, stamping, machining, extrusion, and related processes. Work with manufacturing to consider high volume assembly processes in design concepts.
Design of fixtures to support data collection and/or laboratory pilot builds.
Ensure designs meet and exceed product specifications, regulatory requirements, and international standards.
Provide technical feasibility assessments.
Develop specifications, test methodologies, and test equipment to evaluate design concepts.
Perform calculations, analyses, and engineering testing to verify the designs. Documentresults in reports and laboratory notebooks.
Create and release engineering drawings.
Process engineering change orders.
Work with suppliers to ensure components meet design requirements & diagnose design problems.
Travel to vendor locations and customers, global and domestic, as needed to help ensure programs meet deadlines and troubleshoot issues.
Collaborate with other departments within Medtronic on development projects.
Present technical findings or project status to cross-functional teams and management through meeting minutes, design reviews, presentations, and other means of communication.
Recommend various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility, or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency, or costs.
Support the transfer between phases of the project life cycle.
Up to 20% domestic and/or international travel.
Experience with the design and manufacture of medical devices
Familiarity with quality systems
Experience in product design and development in an R&D environment, familiar with surface modeling, and able to design a mechanism from scratch
Experience in polymer material selection
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
Medical device or healthcare industry experience
Experience creating technical, written content
Demonstrated data analysis skills
Ability to interpret technical drawings and creating Bill of Materials
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Experience designing and developing portable miniature electromechanical assemblies
Hands-on, handy with measuring equipment and/or able to learn how to use new equipment fast
Solid understanding of contemporary manufacturing techniques
Understanding of color, material, and finishing principles (CMF)
Strong interpersonal skills
Effective problem-solving skills

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$98,400.00 - $147,600.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
