Requirements
  • An Associate's degree in nursing is required.
  • Five years of professional nursing experience is required.
  • Active BLS/CPR certification is required and all required certifications must remain current and valid.
  • Texas Registered Nurse licensure is required.
  • The ability to function within the nursing process defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act is required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms is required.
  • The ability to analyze information, use logic to coordinate work within schedule constraints, and handle emergent requirements promptly is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients at the Mays Cancer Center.
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during patient treatment and examinations with limited supervision.
  • Participate as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide quality patient care.
  • Perform physical examinations, complex medical testing, interpretation of results, physician consultation, treatment-plan implementation, and administration of medications and injections as needed.
  • Ensure clinic flow runs smoothly and coordinate with the assigned scheduler regarding referrals, follow-up appointments, and diagnostic tests.
  • Triage patient calls and collaborate with call center team members.
  • Assist with and arrange hospital admissions as needed.
  • Follow up on diagnostic tests and laboratory results and ensure they are reported to the medical provider.
  • Refer patients to appropriate specialists and collaborate with other healthcare team members.
  • Provide daily wound care as needed and schedule follow-up, weekly check, and procedure appointments.
  • Educate patients and family members about the therapy process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to serve as a preceptor and mentor by fostering a teaching environment.
  • Eligibility for preceptor premium pay after completing preceptor education and receiving leader approval.
