Visual inspection system for chip-welding verification.

Visual inspection system for chip-welding verification. Customer: A global healthcare company. Project: Automated vision inspection system for verification of silicon chip welding and assembly. Product description. Syntronic developed an advanced vision inspection system to automate the verification of silicon chips welded onto cartridges for medical applications. The solution combines high-resolution imaging with intelligent inspection software to verify critical assembly features, ensuring consistent product quality and compliance with demanding manufacturing standards. Designed for precision manufacturing environments, the system performs fast and reliable inspections with micron-level accuracy. By automating quality verification, the solution reduces manual inspection efforts while increasing process reliability, traceability, and production efficiency. Scope. The project included the design and development of a semi-automated vision inspection system for production verification of silicon chips mounted on cartridges. Once a cartridge is inserted into the inspection station, an automated scanning sequence captures high-resolution images using an overhead camera together with integrated top and bottom illumination to ensure optimal image quality. The system inspects multiple critical features, including hole dimensions, weld quality, and the presence of optical fibers on 30 mm silicon chips. Advanced image processing algorithms detect deviations with measurement capabilities down to 50-80 μm, enabling reliable verification of precision assembly and weld integrity. Custom-developed inspection software provides rapid analysis and consistent evaluation of every component, helping manufacturers maintain stringent quality requirements while supporting efficient production workflows. Results. The visual inspection system provides reliable and repeatable verification of critical weld and assembly features for silicon chip cartridges, ensuring that each component meets demanding quality standards before continuing through production. By combining advanced machine vision, precision illumination, and automated inspection software, Syntronic delivered a robust quality assurance solution that improves process consistency, enhances traceability, and reduces dependence on manual inspection. The system has been successfully implemented in production for a global healthcare company, supporting efficient manufacturing of high-quality medical products. About Syntronic. Syntronic expands manufacturing operations in Ontario

Syntronic expands manufacturing operations in ontario. Syntronic is expanding its manufacturing operations in Ottawa with a move into new premises at 340 Legget Drive in the Kanata North Research Park. The expansion brings a major increase in capacity and capability, consolidating production and repair operations under one roof and more than doubling total floor space to approximately 70,000 square feet. The new location is less than five minutes from Syntronic's local R&D site, tightening collaboration across the entire product lifecycle from design to full scale production. The proximity strengthens the company's integrated approach, where engineering and manufacturing teams work closely together to accelerate innovation and maintain the highest standards of quality. "Syntronic's strength has always been our ability to adapt and grow alongside our customers," said Björn Jansson, Founder and CEO of Syntronic Group. "Expanding our manufacturing presence in Canada is another step in that journey, ensuring we can meet future needs with the same innovation, quality, and customer focus that define Syntronic globally." Advanced manufacturing technology. As part of the expansion, Syntronic has invested in a third surface mount technology (SMT) line. The new equipment includes the latest, state-of-the-art models from DEK, Koh Young, Vitronics Soltec, as well as FUJI's AIMEX R platforms, the first of their kind deployed in Canada. The new line, fitted with the latest RHDX heads from FUJI, is capable of high output and capacity, with maintained quality. It can place all commercially available components down to 008004 chip devices and offers an increase in CPH rating of close to a quarter of a million placements, almost tripling its throughput. This equipment, combined with new softwares, ensures its ability to meet increased customer demands on traceability and speed. "This expansion reflects the demand that we're seeing for advanced manufacturing close to our customers," said Hans Molin, President of Syntronic Canada. "In addition, the close proximity to our engineering teams allows us to serve our customers even more effectively by strengthening the link between design, development, and production." R&D sites in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal. The expansion further enhances Syntronic's manufacturing capabilities in North America. The company operates a state-of-the-art production facility in Ottawa and two additional manufacturing sites in Sweden. Across the continent, Syntronic also runs R&D sites in Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal, along with a facility in Santa Clara, California. Together, these sites work in close collaboration to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions across the entire lifecycle of a product or service, from concept and design to manufacturing, testing, and support. With more than 500 employees in North America and nearly 2,000 globally, Syntronic continues to grow as a trusted engineering and manufacturing company. The company's ongoing investments in technology and infrastructure reflect its long-standing commitment to innovation, quality, and collaboration.
