Requirements
  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited graduate school.
  • Seven years of experience in library services, including at least two years of experience as a branch manager.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • Must possess and maintain licensure from the Georgia State Board for the Certification of Librarians within six months of employment.
  • Knowledge of library operations including public outreach, reference, circulation, and collection management.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned staff, including developing work schedules, reviewing timesheets, and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Manage and oversee the operations of major library functions such as public outreach, collection management, training, reference, or circulation across multiple branches.
  • Organize, prioritize, and assign work activities to meet objectives and ensure subordinates have necessary resources.
  • Develop goals and objectives for assigned units and determine the allocation of financial, staffing, equipment, and bibliographic resources.
  • Establish and evaluate changes in library policies and procedures and interpret them for the public and staff.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets and recommend capital improvements for assigned areas.
  • Coordinate and oversee the arrangement of physical facilities and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Represent the library and assigned functional areas to patrons and the community through meetings and outreach events.
  • Write grant requests and manage petty cash funds.
  • Oversee the development of library collections in all formats, including selecting, purchasing, and weeding materials.
  • Plan and supervise outreach functions and coordinate participation in community events with external organizations.
  • Oversee circulation operations, including the automated circulation system, inter-library loans, and customer service activities.
  • Develop, promote, and schedule training opportunities for library staff and patrons, including coordinating staff development days and managing the staff intranet.
  • Maintain awareness of legislation affecting library operations and the specific area of assignment.
