Fire Protection Engineer, Senior
Key Role:
Provide technical and programmatic fire protection (FP), life safety (LS), and occupational safety and health (OSH) support to federal clients, including FP/LS and building and fire code compliance consulting services, and review and analysis of proposed FP/LS design changes for code compliance. Contribute as subject matter expert and representative of Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in the development of Statements of Work and design or construction proposals. Develop performance-based design analyses using FP engineering principles, code reviews, consultation with AHJ, and other resources. Conduct engineering reviews of shop drawings, construction oversight and inspection, field surveys, and systems acceptance testing for LS systems, including fire suppression, fire detection, and emergency signaling systems. Participate in project meetings to provide oversight, coordinate prioritization of work as it relates to other areas of construction, and provide recommendations for resolution of issues encountered by construction trades during LS system implementation. Evaluate existing building and LS system conditions through code compliance and LS and fire hazards analysis surveys. Develop technical reports detailing fire prevention and protection issues and review FP engineering deliverables developed by junior engineers and provide feedback, mentoring, and training. Travel to CONUS and OCONUS clients and contractor facilities to conduct OSH program reviews or audits, including interviews with client personnel with OSH responsibilities, identification of workplace characteristics, processes, hazards, and controls, recommending mitigation measures, presenting findings to clients, and developing detailed reports for client delivery.
Basic Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience with FP, LS, and OSH
- Experience in all major areas of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and FP/LS building codes, regulations, and standards, including NFPA 101, NFPA 13, NFPA 25, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 75, or NFPA 90A
- Experience in the healthcare environment and with FP/LS codes for healthcare facilities, including NFPA 99 and the Joint Commission
- Experience with OSH regulatory and consensus standards, including 29 CFR 1910, 1926, and 1960 and NFPA 70, 70E, and 101, and enterprise-level OSH policies and guidance
- Experience conducting in-person site assessments and audits
- Experience using Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering
- Registered FP Professional Engineer (PE) License
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience with fire suppression and detection systems design
- Experience in UFC 3-600-01, and UFC 3-601-02 regulations and standards
- Experience with federal clients
- Experience developing project plans and performing task or project management functions
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $75,600.00 to $172,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
