Sensity AI in top 2% of European startups selected to receive €4.9m in EIC funding. Team Sensity 15 July 2026 Amsterdam-based deepfake detection company Sensity AI has emerged in the top 2% of European startups selected to receive funding from the European Innovation Council (EIC) following its latest accelerator evaluation round. The EIC has selected 38 innovative startups to receive funding. From an initial total of 1,760 proposals, just 87 were called to Brussels for the interview stage. The final 38 companies were chosen for their transformative technologies and strong commercial promise. The EIC Accelerator is the European Union's flagship funding program for startups developing high-impact, deep-tech innovations. Sensity AI Deepfake Detection was the only cybersecurity solution to make the grade, and the funding will accelerate the company's international expansion plans. Through the program, Sensity AI was selected to receive a total of €4.9m - including €2.5M as an equity-free grant, which will be used in part to further develop foundational models for deepfake detection and optimize real-time deepfake analysis in resource-constrained environments. The systemic risk of malicious synthetic media. Malicious synthetic media, especially deepfakes, are rapidly becoming a systemic risk. The democratization of generative AI (Gen-AI) has empowered bad actors, ranging from cybercriminals to state adversaries, to deploy deepfakes for fraud and psychological manipulation at a scale that currently outpaces both public and private sector defenses. Deepfakes can now be generated with zero technical skill, at virtually no cost (an average of €1.331, according to IBM), and with a level of realism that makes them imperceptible to the human eye, creating a threat landscape already affecting multiple critical sectors, including finance, banking, media, and government. "The deepfake threat is affecting multiple critical sectors, with 75% of all businesses experiencing deepfake fraud in 2025. There is an urgent need for lasting, effective solutions that can not only detect synthetic media in real-time, but can also be trusted with their forensic validity by law enforcement and intelligence professionals," said Giorgio Patrini, CEO and co-founder of Sensity AI. Sensity AI's all-in-one synthetic media detection platform for multi-modal deepfake detection is a versatile, highly-scalable solution with 98% accuracy across all modalities (image, video, and audio). For law enforcement, forensics labs, and governments, it is a validated crime-busting tool with a forensic engine producing reports for evidentiary use. One of the key technical challenges Sensity AI's approach overcomes, and which the EIC funding will continue to facilitate, is detector obsolescence in deployment. All deepfake detection platforms on the market share a critical limitation, where classifiers trained on specific generators lose accuracy when encountering synthetic media from generators not represented in their training data. The root cause of the challenge is well understood, where binary classification incentivises detection models to learn generator-specific artifacts, resulting in detectors that are brittle and require costly manual retraining every time a new generation technique gains traction. Sensity AI believes this reactive cycle is unsustainable and erodes client trust in detection technology. The company has instead built a detector capable of learning fundamental forensic patterns. Sensity AI's family of foundational models decouples the learning of forensic features from the classification of specific generators. Although detection of AI-generated media is an arms race, this approach closes the gap between novel generators and detection capabilities significantly. This brings the company's total capital raised to $3.2 million. Founded in 2018, Sensity AI develops forensic-grade deepfake detection technology for AI-generated images, video and audio. The company tripled revenue in the past year, reached profitability, and achieved a capital efficiency ratio above 1.5x. It now serves clients across four continents, including defence agencies, law enforcement, banks and insurers. The company claims 98% accuracy in detecting deepfakes, compared to around 60% for some competitors. Sensity AI aims to surpass $4 million in annual recurring revenue in 2026, as demand grows for tools to combat AI-generated synthetic media used in fraud and disinformation campaigns.
