Job Description Summary:
The Fire Protection Technology faculty supports learning on campus, all distance learning modalities, and hands-on firefighting skills training. Our faculty teach students at ACC campuses, off-site locations, and at dual credit high school programs. Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering coursework that is engaging and innovative, in discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success and creating an environment that promotes belonging for all. This position starts in January 2026.
Job Description:
Austin Community College’s Fire Protection Technology Program offers certificate and degree options to provide students with entry-level firefighter skills and/or advance leadership credentials. The ACC Fire Protection Technology program offers many courses accredited by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP).
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
Prepare and teach courses in the field of Fire Protection Technology to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and departmental governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.
Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
Serve as a mentor to students in the Fire Protection Technology program.
Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities to include TCFP continuing education requirements as well as ACC requirements.
Support division and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, executive vice chancellor.
Additional Duties
Schedule and coordinate training with TCFP through their training database (FIDO).
Technology
Demonstrate proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
Demonstrate proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)

Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.

Required Work Experience
In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements:
Three years of non-teaching, firefighter work experience

Working Conditions
Work is routinely performed in a classroom, fire protection training ground, and/or fire department drill field setting.
Subject to standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and reaching for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 85 pounds.
Capable of wearing firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE) to include bunker gear and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for extended periods of time during fire training evolutions.
Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
Work could be performed in an unairconditioned, open air fire protection training ground, and/or fire department drill field setting.
Work is routinely performed in a fire protection training ground atmosphere with common exposure to loud noises, heat/cold, outdoor environment.
Salary Range
