Redwood Materials focuses on battery recycling and the supply chain for lithium-ion batteries. The company transforms used batteries into valuable materials, specifically anodes and cathodes, which are essential for battery production. By recycling batteries, Redwood Materials creates a domestic source of these critical components, reducing the need for long-distance transportation and overseas procurement. This approach not only lowers costs for U.S. cell manufacturers but also addresses environmental concerns associated with battery production. Unlike competitors who rely on international supply chains, Redwood Materials provides a sustainable and cost-effective solution by sourcing materials locally. The company's goal is to support the growing demand for lithium-ion batteries, which is expected to increase significantly by 2030, while promoting sustainability in the battery production process.
