Requirements
  • Within 90 days of hire, achieve FDNY certification as a Fire Drill Conductor, Fire Guard, or Fire Safety Coordinator for Downstate Residential locations.
  • Obtain CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Have some paid or internship work experience, expressed interest in working with substance use or mental health populations, or lived experience.
  • Demonstrate computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and an electronic health record system.
  • Have experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and monitor the therapeutic environment to ensure behavioral guidelines are followed, a therapeutic milieu is maintained, and interpersonal relationships remain positive.
  • Manage the daily program schedule of activities and ensure that events occur with all scheduled participants.
  • Supervise and monitor the facility to ensure cleanliness, security, and safety practices are enacted.
  • Conduct mandated fire drills and evacuations as needed.
  • Administer breathalyzer tests and observe urine or oral specimen collection from clients returning from appointments or other external activities as needed.
  • Manage medications, including checking in medication and directly observing clients during medication pass for adherence to prescribed medication regimens.
  • Conduct facility and safety runs and room checks to assess clients for alcohol or drug use and identify unsafe conditions in the care environment.
  • Conduct physical searches of clients, including their bags, clothing, and person, using handheld metal detectors when applicable.
  • Under management direction, search rooms and personal property to ensure environmental safety.
  • Review internal and external client appointments for assigned shifts and ensure trips are dispatched promptly.
  • Dispatch vehicles and ensure required agency paperwork is complete and accurate.
  • Distribute carfare for external appointments.
  • Review appointment escort selections for appropriateness.
  • Coordinate daily client attendance reporting in accordance with DSS/HRA protocols and agency policy.
  • Comply with 42 CFR confidentiality requirements and HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
  • When Food Service Staff are absent, monitor the kitchen and food preparation for compliance with Board of Health requirements.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
