2U named personalized Learning Company of the Year for ai-powered Xpert Learning Assistant. 2U has been named the 2026 "Personalized Learning Company of the Year" in the inaugural WorldWiDE EdTech Awards for Xpert Learning Assistant (Xpert LA), our AI-powered tool that's changing how learners get support when they need it most. The WorldWiDE EdTech Awards recognize technologies creating meaningful change in learning, with winners selected by an independent panel of experts evaluating impact, design, innovation, accessibility, and responsibility. Judges highlighted our evidence-based approach to AI integration and the measurable impact Xpert LA is having on learner engagement and outcomes. What Xpert LA does Every learner has been there: stuck on a concept at 11 p.m., unsure whether the question is worth asking, wishing someone could just explain it one more time in a different way. Xpert LA was built for that moment. It's an always-available assistant that delivers personalized explanations whenever learners need them - meeting people where they are, on their own terms. The results speak for themselves In early pilots, nearly 10,000 learners participated in more than 321,000 conversations - returning for an average of 33 interactions each. That kind of repeat engagement tells us learners aren't just using Xpert LA; they're trusting it. And that trust is translating into real outcomes: learners using Xpert LA recorded a 34% increase in attendance and a 23% increase in homework completion. Today, with more than 5 million engagements to date and growing mobile adoption, Xpert LA is proving that AI can do more than automate. It can empower learners to deepen their knowledge and reach their goals. What's next This year, we're continuing to expand Xpert LA's capabilities, giving educators greater control over how AI support is tailored to their specific courses and learning experiences. It's core to how we think about AI at 2U: artificial intelligence working in concert with human interaction, expanding capacity while keeping critical decisions and care firmly in human hands. This is what we've always believed: that the right support, at the right moment, can change someone's trajectory. This award is a reflection of that belief in action.
Bringing learners back: how Vanderbilt's Peabody College online programs unlock new possibilities. Years ago, a cancer diagnosis put Heather Wilson 's academic and career goals on pause. "For a long time, I wasn't sure what I wanted to be when I grew up," says Heather, who hails from northwest Arkansas. Her story is unfortunately all too familiar. For generations, students have faced the same difficult choice to pause or abandon their education to address life's challenges. Health demands, distance, work obligations, and family responsibilities have often stood in the way of a traditional education. High-quality education and flexibility have frequently been mutually exclusive. Today, Heather is an online doctoral student at Vanderbilt University's Peabody College, taking classes remotely from her home. And like her, many students who once stepped away from education are finding their way back, empowered by accessible, high-quality online programs. "What began with nerves quickly turned into new friendships and a community I know we're going to lean on for years to come," she says, reflecting on the experience. Through its partnership with 2U, Vanderbilt University is expanding access to career-advancing education online, bringing world-class learning opportunities to students far from campus. Vanderbilt University notes that the Leadership and Learning in Organizations program that Heather is enrolled in "integrates with the busy lives of adult learners while engaging them in highly collaborative learning to develop competencies in leadership and organizational development, data analytics, and learning and design." Heather's journey back to school is a testament to how online learning, by removing barriers of time and place, can transform lives, reignite ambitions, and make long-deferred dreams a reality. Summing it all up, Heather concludes, "If you're waiting for a sign, it's never too late to dream a dream and make it come true." Learn more about 2u.
