What is a Technical Apprenticeship?
Boeing Technical Apprenticeship Program (BTAP), is an official registered apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL). It is an earn and learn program including formal learning, on-the-job experiences, and mentorship. Every graduate of a Registered Apprenticeship program will receive a nationally-recognized credential from the DOL. Successful completion of the program also earns higher education credits that can be used towards graduate certificates and degreed programs.
What makes a great Technical Apprentice?
A degree is not required to apply for most technical apprenticeship programs. We select apprentices based on a range of core traits and skills, such as:
- Passion for continuously learning, improving, technology, and achieving more
- Curious mindset, problem solving, and ability to quickly apply back into your work
- Technical aptitude and eagerness to learn new things and help others
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with accountability to a team
- Self-motivated, with initiative and persistence in achieving success
- Strong interpersonal skills and confident communication with diverse stakeholders
What is the experience?
As an apprentice, you’ll join with other apprentices in a cohort and go through experiences together, learning Boeing, aerospace, and core NDT fundamentals. Additionally, managers and mentors will support progress through the personal skills roadmap, learning and demonstrating new skills through hands-on application with project teams.
During the apprenticeship duration, you will initially complete a highly rigorous and accelerated learning program tailored to develop foundational skills across all aspects of NDT. The cohort progresses through this learning program at the same pace. Once foundational skills are demonstrated through the training, each person will then begin progressively transitioning to on-the-job learning experiences for a specific role in NDT (e.g. Ultrasonic Testing, Eddy Current Testing, or Radiography Testing). Nondestructive Test Specialists are like superheroes who can evaluate the coolest products in the world without damaging them.
Each NDT role has clearly defined skills and job activities crucial to the targeted role that your mentors and manager will assess progress to proficiency as you work through the program. The timing and type of work can vary based on current projects and needs within the business at the time. In this phase, each person develops at their own pace, but we expect most apprentices to complete their program within 12-18 months. At successful completion of the on-the-job experiences demonstrating full proficiency, you will receive a credential for the specific role and be eligible for full-time roles at Boeing.
We are targeting a start date of October 2024 depending on our down selection process. This may be adjusted based on final cohort selection.
