Tubi launches first streaming app in ChatGPT, tapping 900M weekly users for content discovery

Tubi has become the first major streaming service to launch a native app within ChatGPT, giving users access to its library of over 300,000 movies and TV episodes. Users can install the app from the ChatGPT store and make natural-language requests like "a thriller for girls' night" to receive personalised recommendations. The move marks a strategic shift for the Fox-owned platform, which previously tested AI-powered recommendations through its own "Rabbit AI" feature before discontinuing it. By integrating directly into ChatGPT, which has 900 million weekly active users, Tubi aims to meet viewers where they're already seeking content discovery. The integration follows OpenAI's October launch of its developer platform, which has attracted dozens of companies including Spotify, DoorDash and Expedia.

Horror News Update: February 27, 2026

Horror news update: february 27, 2026. Today's digest. Today's major development in the horror genre includes the revival of religious horror films, signaling a return to themes popular in the late 20th century. Additionally, Tubi's partnership with The Black List aims to nurture new screenwriting talent, reflecting the increasing demand for original horror content. Lastly, March 2026 will see the release of 86 new sci-fi, fantasy, and horror books, promising to engage genre enthusiasts with fresh narratives. This update highlights the dynamic evolution of horror in film, literature, and beyond. Reading time: 5 minutes In this article. A modern resurrection: the return of religious horror films. The resurgence of religious horror films marks a significant trend in contemporary cinema, echoing the genre's heyday during the late 1960s and 1970s, as highlighted in a recent article by Bloody Disgusting. This revival is relevant as it reflects broader cultural and societal anxieties surrounding faith, morality, and the supernatural, resonating with audiences seeking deeper narratives in horror. Historically, films like "Rosemary's Baby," "The Exorcist," and "The Omen" defined the religious horror genre, intertwining elements of faith with psychological and supernatural terror. The article notes that these films not only entertained but also provoked discussions about the nature of evil and the human condition. In contrast, the modern landscape of horror is witnessing a renewed interest in these themes, suggesting that filmmakers are tapping into the rich legacy of religious horror to explore contemporary issues. The analysis indicates that this revival may be driven by a combination of nostalgia and a desire for substance in horror storytelling. As audiences become increasingly disillusioned with formulaic horror tropes, the return to religious themes may offer a more profound exploration of fear and morality. The article suggests that this trend could lead to a new wave of films that challenge viewers to confront their beliefs and fears in a more visceral way. As the genre evolves, it will be interesting to observe how filmmakers balance traditional elements of religious horror with modern sensibilities. The implications of this resurgence could lead to a renaissance in horror cinema, where deeper narratives coexist with the thrills and chills that audiences crave. Future developments may include a broader range of stories that not only entertain but also provoke thought, potentially reshaping the landscape of horror films in the years to come. According to Bloody Disgusting, this trend signifies not just a revival, but a reimagining of how religious themes can be integrated into horror, paving the way for innovative storytelling that resonates with contemporary audiences. Tubi expands partnership with The Black List on new horror screenwriting initiative. Tubi has announced an expansion of its partnership with The Black List to launch a new horror screenwriting initiative, aimed at fostering fresh talent in the horror genre. This initiative is particularly relevant as it highlights the growing demand for original horror content in the streaming landscape, where platforms are increasingly seeking unique narratives to attract and retain viewers. The collaboration will provide emerging writers with the opportunity to submit their horror scripts, which will be evaluated by industry professionals. Selected scripts may receive funding and support for production, thus offering a potential pathway for new voices in the genre to reach a broader audience. This move aligns with Tubi's strategy to diversify its content offerings and capitalize on the popularity of horror films, which have consistently performed well in the streaming market. The Black List, known for its annual compilation of the best unproduced screenplays, brings a wealth of experience and credibility to the initiative. By partnering with Tubi, the organization aims to discover and promote innovative storytelling in horror, a genre that has seen a resurgence in recent years, particularly among younger audiences. In analyzing this initiative, it is evident that both Tubi and The Black List are positioning themselves strategically within a competitive industry. As streaming services continue to evolve, the focus on niche genres like horror could serve as a differentiating factor. Moreover, this initiative may encourage a new wave of creativity and experimentation in horror storytelling, which could lead to fresh cinematic experiences. According to Deadline, this partnership not only aims to elevate new talent but also reflects the evolving landscape of content creation, where platforms are increasingly looking to engage with diverse voices. The implications of this initiative could extend beyond individual projects, potentially reshaping the horror genre's future in mainstream media. As the initiative unfolds, it will be interesting to observe the impact on both Tubi's content library and the broader horror film landscape. 86 new sci-fi, fantasy, and horror books arriving in March. A plethora of new science fiction, fantasy, and horror books are set to debut in March 2026, offering a diverse range of narratives for genre enthusiasts. According to Gizmodo, this month features 86 new titles that promise to captivate readers with fresh stories and imaginative worlds. The relevance of this release is significant as the changing seasons often inspire a renewed interest in reading, making March an ideal time for readers to explore new literary adventures. With the winter chill fading, these new titles provide an opportunity for escapism and reflection through various speculative genres. Among the highlighted titles is "Aubrey Wants to Die" by Pip Knight, which follows a vampire's struggle with her undead existence and her romantic entanglement with a human. This story exemplifies the ongoing fascination with vampire lore, while also exploring themes of love and despair. Similarly, Christopher Buehlman's "Between Two Fires" delves into historical fantasy, intertwining the aftermath of the Black Death with celestial conflict, thus appealing to readers interested in both history and myth. Other notable entries include "The Body Builders" by Albertine Clarke, which offers a literary exploration of identity and consciousness, and "The Debtor's Game" by Isabelle Mongeau, which presents a tale of faerie politics and personal freedom. These narratives reflect the genre's ability to address complex themes such as power dynamics and self-discovery. The variety of stories, from romantic fantasies to dark horror, underscores the genre's versatility and its capacity to resonate with a wide audience. As readers seek new content, these releases may influence trends within the publishing industry, potentially leading to increased interest in speculative fiction. In conclusion, March 2026 brings a rich selection of new titles that cater to diverse tastes within the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror genres. As these books hit the shelves, they may not only provide entertainment but also spark discussions about the themes they explore. The implications of these releases could shape reader preferences and influence future publishing trends in speculative fiction.

Apple announces F1 partnerships with Netflix, Tubi and IMAX for 2026, along with incredible Multiview features

Apple announces F1 partnerships with Netflix, Tubi and IMAX for 2026, along with incredible multiview features. This is huge for U.S. F1 fans F1 2026 on Apple TV: Key Points * Included free with U.S. Apple TV subscriptions * "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" season 8 on Apple TV and Netflix starting Feb. 27 * Canadian Grand Prix will be broadcast on Netflix as well as Apple TV * Multiview allows you to watch up to four feeds at once (five on Vision Pro) Apple just revealed a whole treasure trove of information about its plans for the 2026 Formula 1 season, and there are some major headlines. Top of the list is a major partnership with Netflix. This will bring season 8 of the hit Netflix series "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" to Apple TV starting tomorrow (Feb. 27), the same time it drops on Netflix. In return, Netflix subscribers will get access to the broadcast of the Canadian Grand Prix, which is a big win for Netflix users. In case you missed it, last year, Apple TV won the U.S. rights to F1 for the 2026 season and beyond. Starting this year, Apple TV is the exclusive U.S. home for broadcasts and replays of F1 practice sessions, qualifying for both Sprints and Grands Prix, Sprint races, and Grand Prix races. Some of those races and all practice sessions will be available to stream for free in the Apple TV app and F1 TV Premium will be free to those with an Apple TV subscription. But the big question mark was "Drive to Survive." Now that has been answered, but Tomsguide has also learned about upcoming partnerships with Tubi and IMAX, new multiview features and so much more. Latest Videos From Tom's Guide Malcolm McMillan Malcolm has been with the Tom's Guide streaming team since 2023, covering everything from streaming live sports to cutting the cord and more. Netflix, Tubi and IMAX are joining in on the F1 fun with Apple. I'll dive into all the technical details of the 2026 F1 experience on Apple's host of apps, but real quick, I want to highlight the partnerships that Apple's senior vice president of Services, Eddy Cue, announced in a virtual press briefing I attended today. I think these partnerships not only have the potential to grow the sport, but save you some money if you're considering getting into F1 but don't want to commit to an Apple TV subscription. I already covered the Netflix details: "Drive to Survive" season 8 is coming to Apple TV as well as Netflix, and the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix is coming to Netflix in addition to Apple TV. But that's not the only streaming service that will get in on the F1 fun with Apple. Cue revealed that Tubi, one of the best free streaming services, will also be partnering with Apple. An Apple spokesperson clarified that this would come in the form of "altcasts" for select races that will be free to stream on Tubi. IMAX will also be getting a selection of races at select IMAX theaters, per Apple. Unfortunately, more details aren't available yet, so stay tuned. Multiview, 4K, Dolby Vision and more coming to F1 on Apple TV. OK, now you know all the places where you can watch F1 this season, but let's dive into the how. One of the biggest features announced by Apple today, which will be broadcasting the F1 TV feed in 4K, with Dolby Vision and 5.1 surround audio, is that there will be 30 additional feeds you can stream during the broadcast. This includes a driver tracker, a driver data feed, feeds for P1, P2 and P3 drivers and a dedicated feed for each of the 22 drivers on the grid. Thanks to multiview, you'll be able to watch up to four of these feeds at once on Apple TV 4K and iPad. If you're watching on an Apple Vision Pro, you'll be able to watch up to 5 feeds simultaneously. This includes curated multiviews such as a P1-P3 Multiview, team specfic feeds, etc. You'll even be able to access the Sky One broadcast as one of the feeds, if you prefer Sky's F1 commentary. What do you think? Who will win the 2026 F1 Driver's Championship? Max Verstappen Lewis Hamilton Oscar Piastri Lando Norris George Russell Charles Leclerc Finally, there are some Apple app synergies that Apple teased when it first announced the F1 deal last year. On race day, the race will be the first thing you see on the Apple TV home page, and you can go right into the race from the home page (it will also autoplay). The Apple Sports app will give you a live leaderboard from which you can launch the live race feed on Apple TV. It will also create live activities that appear automatically on iPhone and Apple Watch at race starts. There will also be an F1 widget for the home screen, and Apple News will offer a live feed of the race in the Formula 1 news coverage section of its app. Apple Maps will expand F1 race maps to Melbourne this year (it was previously limited to Monaco) and finally, Apple Music will get a live broadcast commentary feed for free on Apple Radio, as well as a dedicated F1 hub with curated playlists.
