Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • At least 6 months of experience working in a medical office setting, hospital patient accounting office, accounts receivable or bad debt collection outsourcing firm is required.
  • Familiarity with information systems is required.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize work is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Customer service recovery skills and the ability to deal with patients and staff in a tactful and diplomatic manner are required.
  • The ability to exercise good judgment and discretion while following written and verbal instructions and policies is required.
  • The ability to handle a high volume of patient account calls and inquiries, manage a high-volume work queue, and recover outstanding receivables at a competitive level is required.
  • The ability to work in a latex-safe indoor environment and meet the stated physical requirements, including frequently lifting or carrying approximately 20 pounds, is required.
  • Availability for evening and weekend work as goals and workload dictate is required.
Responsibilities
  • Handle inbound and outbound collection calls with patients, guarantors, and third parties to manage customer accounts, resolve patient questions, and provide customer service.
  • Manage a heavy volume of patient accounts in a work-queue environment by collecting online payments, promises, and payment plans while resolving accounting issues, disputes, and customer complaints.
  • Assist patients in completing and applying for financial assistance.
  • Update patient demographic, insurance, and guarantor information to maintain accurate records.
  • Accurately document all collection actions and collection conversations.
  • Comply with HIPAA privacy regulations and protect the confidentiality and privacy of patients, guarantors, and their personal financial records.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations and organizational policies.
  • Assist the office with administrative duties, including typing, contacting insurance companies, researching documents, copying records, and handling mail, phone, and email requests.
  • Maintain and manage all incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Call center, healthcare collection, or healthcare patient accounting experience is preferred.
