Requirements
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Have a minimum of one year of commercial truck driving experience or a CDL school certificate.
  • Meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to company standards.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely drive the truck and operate the equipment.
  • Know the truck and its components and the basic maintenance requirements for safe operation.
  • Control equipment operations and maneuver the truck into and out of minimum-clearance spaces, using mirrors to back approximately 120 feet or more.
  • Recognize unacceptable waste, such as gasoline or other flammable materials.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Read, write, and comprehend associated documents and maps.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds repetitively using proper lifting techniques.
  • Coordinate two or more limbs while sitting or standing.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell.
  • Meet close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth-vision requirements and adjust focus while maneuvering the vehicle in tight and high-traffic areas.
  • Regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally push or move up to 300 pounds.
  • Enter and exit the truck to open doors to corrals multiple times during a shift.
  • Climb to the top of the truck to verify that the load is secured before transporting it to the landfill.
  • Work in usually loud conditions and in outdoor environments exposed to weather, moving mechanical parts, vibration, chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work in motor-vehicle traffic conditions constantly.
  • Have valid work authorization in the United States and provide documentation confirming eligibility to work before the start date.
Responsibilities
  • Drive commercial front-load or ancillary equipment along designated routes to mechanically collect solid waste and take it to post-collection facilities.
  • Open container enclosures or gates to access cans and, as needed, roll three- to four-yard cans into position for dumping.
  • Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections and complete and submit a vehicle condition report at the end of the shift.
  • Interact courteously with customers and the general public along the route to answer questions or respond to requests, and notify the supervisor of issues requiring management action.
  • Clean loose trash from the truck or ground around the truck and container after spills during dumping to maintain clean customer sites and safety along roads and highways.
  • Maintain and submit a logbook, daily route/productivity sheet, and vehicle condition report as required by law or company policy.
  • Maneuver the truck into and out of minimum-clearance spaces using mirrors to back up.
  • Use a key map and GPS to locate service addresses.
  • Follow safe operating practices, including lockout/tagout procedures, to ensure proper truck operation.
  • Monitor operations for loose debris by using mirrors or direct sight and listening for debris falling onto the truck during dumping, and visually scan the customer site before and after dumping.
  • Follow all safety standards, equipment checks, and precautions while performing duties and comply with federal, state, local, and company safety and vehicle-operation rules.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

GFL Environmental launches two RNG facilities with OPAL Fuels to power 800 heavy-duty trucks

OPAL Fuels and GFL Environmental have begun construction on two renewable natural gas facilities at landfills in Georgia and Alabama. The projects will convert landfill methane into approximately 15 million gasoline gallon equivalents of RNG annually, enough to fuel roughly 800 Class 8 trucks. The expansion deepens GFL's partnership with OPAL Fuels in decarbonising transportation and building RNG infrastructure. However, the development doesn't substantially alter GFL's near-term investment narrative, which remains focused on integrating past acquisitions, managing high leverage and delivering on 2026 revenue guidance. GFL recently authorised share buybacks of up to 34.7 million shares and increased its dividend by 10%. Analysts project the company's revenue could reach CA$8.6 billion by 2029, implying 8.8% annual growth.

GFL to acquire Secure Waste for $6.4B, adding 80+ facilities across Western Canada

GFL Environmental has agreed to acquire Secure Waste Infrastructure for $6.4 billion, expanding its presence in Western Canada and North Dakota. The deal includes over 80 locations comprising 12 landfills, 55 waste treatment facilities, 12 recycling facilities, 98 injection wells and five transfer stations. Secure shareholders can choose $24.75 in cash, 0.4195 GFL subordinate voting shares, or a combination for each share held. Cash payments are capped at 20% of the total consideration, with GFL shares limited to 80%. GFL founder and CEO Patrick Dovigi said the acquisition will densify the company's Western Canada footprint and enhance its ability to offer comprehensive waste management services. The transaction requires shareholder approval and is expected to close in the second half of 2025.
