Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and at least 10 years of experience as a practicing engineer in an industrial environment such as a refinery, mineral processing facility, chemical plant, or water treatment facility.
  • Experience or capability in advanced engineering principles, industrial best practices, human performance tools, process optimization, equipment and system reliability, and design efficiency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information and respond to questions.
  • Effective interpersonal, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to mentor and provide direction to process engineers as needed.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, including making clear and precise decisions in critical situations.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and issues concurrently.
  • Ability to use technical skills to focus ideas onto substantial projects.
  • Willingness to learn and communicate complex ideas and concepts to people with less technical background.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to work in a lithium recovery manufacturing plant in Calipatria, California.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute projects supporting the safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective development of lithium and other mineral resources.
  • Apply technical expertise to complex projects and develop process enhancements for plant operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize process performance, improve equipment and system reliability, and ensure design efficiency.
  • Coordinate and lead internal and external resources to execute and deliver assigned mineral development projects successfully.
  • Plan and schedule projects and manage their overall execution while maintaining a Target Zero safety mindset.
  • Evaluate facility performance and provide recommendations to the plant manager on process improvement and operational optimization.
  • Analyze operational data to identify and resolve process issues while maximizing facility performance.
  • Prepare and present analytical reports communicating key operational insights to the team.
  • Review project designs, process documentation, and standard operating and testing procedures for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, applicable codes, and specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership in coordinating process development activities and resolving engineering design and testing issues.
  • Generate or review heat and mass balances, perform detailed equipment and process design calculations, and develop technical specifications.
  • Recommend and implement facility and equipment performance testing related to reliability, operability, efficiency, and integration with plant operations.
  • Support pilot, demonstration, and commercial-scale testing and operations.
  • Respond to operational needs and provide technical services to operations as required.
  • Coordinate with operations and other functional teams to evaluate equipment performance, recommend design and specification improvements, monitor project performance trends, and identify technology upgrades.
  • Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and supervision to process engineers and interns.
  • Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as requested or assigned.
