Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Provide institutional expertise and leadership in science and quantitative writing across the curriculum.
  • Help students write scientific and data-rich papers.
  • Help faculty in all disciplines integrate numeracy into their teaching.
  • Support STEM faculty and departments in achieving their science and quantitative writing goals.
  • Help the Spinelli Center advance writing-with-numbers initiatives across the curriculum.
  • Teach one four-credit, science-themed, writing-based course per semester.
  • Provide direct writing support to students in the writing center, especially those engaged in scientific and quantitative writing.
  • Participate in Jacobson Center projects and initiatives, including developing curricular and pedagogical materials, developing and analyzing writing assessment tools and results, and developing and facilitating student and faculty workshops.
  • Support a diverse workforce and participate in efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
  • Meet with students in scheduled writing-center sessions to discuss and review writing assignments.
  • Participate in the thesis-writing mentoring program.
  • Design and teach one section of WRT 118 or 119, or an equivalent writing-based course, each semester.
  • Support STEM faculty in teaching and learning scientific and quantitative writing.
  • Collaborate with the Spinelli Center to support STEM students with writing, particularly data-driven papers, and help social-science students write with numbers.
  • Contribute to faculty-development offerings related to scientific and quantitative writing.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in writing pedagogy is helpful but not required.
