Celebrating wellness and community during National Health Center Week.

Celebrating wellness and community during National Health Center Week. July 28, 2026 National Health Center Week in America. Every August, community health centers across the country come together to celebrate National Health Center Week (NHCW), an annual observance recognizing the essential role community health centers play in improving the health and well-being of millions of Americans. Established in 1986 by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), National Health Center Week highlights the compassionate, high-quality, and affordable care that community health centers provide, especially in underserved areas where community health centers are critical to providing access to care. What began as a week of recognition has grown into a nationwide celebration of the dedicated healthcare professionals, community partners, patients, and advocates who work together to expand access to care for everyone. According to the NACHC, today, more than 1,400 community health centers operate nearly 16,000 service delivery sites across the United States, serving more than 32 million people each year. These health centers provide comprehensive primary care, behavioral health services, dental care, substance use treatment, pharmacy services, and other vital programs - regardless of a person's insurance status or ability to pay. This year's National Health Center Week theme, "Celebrating America's Health Centers: Innovators in Community Health," recognizes the creativity, resilience, and innovation health centers bring to meeting the evolving needs of their communities. From integrated care models and community partnerships to expanded access and preventive services, health centers continue to find new ways to improve health outcomes and reduce barriers to care. Celebrating NHCW 2026 at InterCommunity: an event unlike any other. For decades, InterCommunity Health Care has proudly served Greater Hartford by providing whole-person care that addresses not only physical health, but also mental health, addiction recovery, and the social factors that influence overall well-being. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), its mission aligns with the very foundation of National Health Center Week: ensuring that everyone has access to compassionate, affordable, high-quality healthcare. To celebrate National Health Center Week, InterCommunity is hosting InterCommunity Art of Wellness Day on Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 11am-7pm, at its East Hartford campus. This free community event will bring together health, wellness, art, and community through free onsite health screenings, same-day appointments, local resource organizations, wellness activities, live music, and more. It will also feature the opening of InterCommunity Gallery LIVE!, the latest exhibit at the gallery. The show will feature artwork from more than 40 local artists and all artwork will be on sale at affordable price points, with all proceeds going directly to artists. Its goal is to connect art and wellbeing at its East Hartford location, and encourage supporting local artists in its community. National Health Center Week is more than a celebration - it is a reminder that strong communities begin with accessible healthcare. InterCommunity, Inc. is grateful to its patients, staff, volunteers, community partners, and supporters who help make its mission possible every day. As InterCommunity, Inc. celebrate National Health Center Week, InterCommunity, Inc. invite everyone to join InterCommunity, Inc. in recognizing the impact of community health centers and the importance of ensuring that every person has the opportunity to live a healthier life.
