Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Satisfactory completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology Program is required.
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and customer service skills are required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
- Current certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the California Department of Public Health is required.
- Current Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, or an equivalent certification such as the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, is required.
- Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- Fire Life Safety Training certification from the City of Los Angeles is required; if unavailable at hire, it must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration.
Responsibilities
- Organize, plan, and direct patient and procedure activities for the designated area.
- Support radiologists in performing radionuclide imaging, therapeutic procedures, and laboratory procedures.
- Apply principles of physics, scanning technique, and computer science related to nuclear scanning.
- Operate nuclear imaging equipment and the computer software necessary to perform studies.
- Safely and efficiently order, handle, prepare, administer, and document radioactive isotopes.
- Perform, compute, and calculate test results using appropriate tools to produce specific statistical information while considering patients' physiologic and developmental ages from infancy through geriatrics.
- Review exposed films for proper positioning, technique, and identification according to approved protocols.
- Confirm patient identification using facility-specified identifiers, including name and birth date.
- Review patient questionnaires, physician orders, and requisitions for physician notes or special instructions, consulting the radiologist and patient when necessary to ensure safety and appropriateness.
- Recognize emergency situations, indicate the appropriate code, and administer aid as needed.
- Perform visual inspections, select appropriate equipment, and apply immobilization devices as required.
- Practice sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination of patients and instruments.
- Record pertinent patient information, complete required paperwork, perform billing functions accurately and promptly, and maintain files.
- Prepare reports and isotope documentation, including ordering, storage, and disposal, in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements and radiation safety officer recommendations.
- Prepare images in the Picture Archiving and Communication System promptly for radiologist interpretation.
- Keep Nuclear Medicine rooms and work areas neat, orderly, prepared, and stocked with appropriate supplies; assist with ordering and stocking department supplies and equipment.
- Perform related duties outside the immediate work area, including scheduling, quality-control follow-up, transport, and clerical work, as assigned.
- Participate in after-hours uncontrolled standby and callback, including using a pager while on duty and on standby when required.
- Complete examinations in a timely manner in Cerner.
- Perform other assigned duties.

- Two years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
