This is a/an 75% full-time equivalency (FTE) job with months off. The number of months off will be determined by the position's FTE percentage. The timing of months off will be set to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. The salary grade and range listed in the posting is reflective of a 100% Full-time position. POSITION SPECIFICS
University Health Services (UHS) is seeking a candidate for a Health Services Assistant (Support) to work in the Utilization Management unit within University Health Services.
The primary role of this position is to obtain prior authorizations for patient appointments. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Verify health insurance information
Obtain prior authorizations
Provide Good Faith Estimates
Communicate with patients about insurance coverage, benefits, and cost for services
Prepare documents, meeting materials, correspondence
Maintain confidential and sensitive information and materials
Work closely with Patient Services and Clinical Services
Answer phone calls
Utilize the EMR system to access and update patient information
Compose and edit written communication
Other duties as assigned
The successful candidate will have excellent customer service and communication skills. Prior experience in a medical office is preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or High School (HS)
No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education.

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $34,800.00 - $50,500.00.
