Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields. Ph.D. preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in BMS design and development, with a focus on battery energy storage systems or electric vehicles.
  • Deep knowledge of battery technologies, including lithium-ion chemistries.
  • Expertise in BMS hardware design, software development, and algorithm optimization.
  • Experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Strong understanding of thermal management, power electronics, and system controls.
  • Familiarity with global standards, including UL 1973, IEC 62619, ISO 26262, and UN38.3.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality, innovative solutions.
Responsibilities
  • Act as the technical authority and decision-maker for all aspects of BMS design and integration within Fluence’s battery modules, racks, and enclosures.
  • Design and optimize BMS architecture, including hardware, firmware, and software, to enhance safety, performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Implement advanced algorithms for state-of-charge (SOC), state-of-health (SOH), and thermal management to improve battery performance and lifespan.
  • Ensure all BMS designs comply with global safety and performance standards (e.g., UL, IEC, ISO, and UN regulations).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate BMS into the broader BESS system, including power conversion, thermal management, and controls.
  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive BMS testing and validation protocols, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and field validation.
  • Work closely with OEM battery cell providers to integrate their systems with Fluence’s BMS and ensure compatibility and reliability.
  • Stay at the forefront of emerging BMS technologies and trends, driving continuous improvement and innovation in Fluence’s offerings.
  • Provide mentorship to engineering teams and collaborate closely with Chief Engineers (Battery, Mechanical, Thermal, Electrical, etc) to ensure seamless product development.
