- All candidates must have completed an accredited surgical technician program to be eligible to apply.
- A high school diploma or GED, 10 years of work experience, graduation from an accredited school of nursing, or an education equivalency for licensing is required.
- Prior operating room experience, graduation from an approved surgical technician program, graduation from an accredited school of nursing, or an education equivalency for licensing is required.
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- The role requires constant standing and walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing 0–25 pounds, and frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing 25–50 pounds.
- The role requires frequent lifting and moving of patients and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, gripping, and oral communication.
- The role requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing over 50 pounds, keyboard use and data entry, and various sitting, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements.
- Practice and implement the technical components of patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse and other healthcare professionals to implement a prioritized, timely, and integrated plan of care incorporating physician preferences, nursing assessments, and diagnostic data.
- Prepare equipment, supplies, and other resources based on an individualized plan of care, and reevaluate and modify resource needs as needed.
- Communicate accurate and timely information to the Registered Nurse regarding patients in the technician's care.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a variety of surgical procedures.
- Operate surgical equipment and instruments properly and use appropriate aseptic technique when handling supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Follow laboratory policies and procedures to correctly handle and label laboratory specimens.
- Document quality controls thoroughly and accurately according to unit-specific standards.
- Organize and use time efficiently, prioritize appropriately, and maintain an organized work environment.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Set up the Operating Room with items needed for patient care and gather supplies, x-rays, instruments, and other materials for surgical cases.
- Handle instruments during surgical procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
