- Apply appropriate in-stream and environmental protection measures during structural maintenance and construction activities.
- Operate light and medium-duty highway equipment for maintenance and construction work.
- Determine and demonstrate proper work-site protection techniques and identify workplace safety hazards.
- Wear personal protective equipment and maintain knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws, and procedures, including OSHA and VOSHA requirements.
- Use equipment properly and safely, apply the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for detours, lane closures, and work zones, and maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
- Participate as a working crew member in construction, repair, and maintenance of timber, steel, and concrete bridge elements and other structures.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and tools.
- Transport personnel, equipment, and materials to and from various work sites.
- Ensure all equipment is properly and safely maintained.
- Complete pre-trip inspections for vehicles and equipment operated.
- Training, experience, or education in construction or a related field.
- Experience fabricating or welding steel components.
- Experience in bridge maintenance or construction.
- Experience in carpentry, building forms and falsework, and concrete placement and finishing.
- Experience with light- to medium-duty equipment and hand and power tools.
- Flagger certification.
- Valid certified crane operator credential with appropriate endorsements.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements.
