Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program or the equivalency of three (3) years experience as a qualified journeyman in Electrical, Electronics or Polyphase Meter/Relay Technician.
  • Able to travel to and from Palo Verde; and work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, rotating shifts and call outs.
  • Testing:
  • EEI MASS Test administered.
  • Meets or exceeds minimum education and experience requirements per Palo Verde Procedure 01DP-0EM08, Appendix A.
Responsibilities
  • Assists PR&C team members in maintaining, calibrating and troubleshooting electromechanical protective relays, solid-state protective relays, microprocessor-based protective relays, revenue metering and dispatch telemetry systems.
  • Assists PR&C team members with maintenance, installation, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of protection, metering and control system failures in the commissioning of new or modified existing equipment.
  • Assists PR&C team members in data collection, unit outage preparation, research and documentation.
  • Assists PR&C team members in verifying and/or modifying Engineering Design Changes to existing prints, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Assists in evaluating and integrating new technologies to reduce capital and O&M costs and improve system reliability.
  • Participates in functional testing of new and modified control schemes prior to energizing new or retrofitted electrical equipment.
  • Utilizes the Site Work Management System (SWMS) to manage work orders, initiate Condition Reports (CR), write work mechanisms, update tasks, manage permits and review equipment history.
  • Communicates with internal customers to assess needs and clarify technical opportunities or limitations.
  • Completes required training and qualifications to progress to PR&C Technician II through On-the-Job (OJT) training and continuing education.
  • Completes required training and qualifications for radiological controlled access, site access, department specific and job specific qualifications.
  • Maintains a safe and accident-free environment by following safety procedures.

  • Able to read and comprehend electrical control schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency in AC/DC electrical theory, electronic circuit fundamentals, algebra and trigonometry.
  • Possess basic computer skills and ability to comprehend and utilize various vendor software programs.
