Requirements
  • Completion of a Sonography program.
  • No experience is required.
  • Hold two or more appropriate sonography registries for the department, including qualifying Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, Registered Cardiac Sonographer, Registered Vascular Specialist, Registered Vascular Technologist, or Registered Musculoskeletal Sonographer credentials in the listed specialties.
  • Hold Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Meet the applicable state-specific professional registration and certification combination for the work location.
Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure and provide quality images for interpretation.
  • Use the second registry in the primary or secondary department at least 30% of the time.
  • Set up and adjust equipment and manually maneuver transducers to perform examinations.
  • Implement safety standards and perform appropriate quality-control procedures.
  • Perform routine and complex studies and assist with a variety of imaging procedures.
  • Recognize significant structures, artifacts, pathology, and equipment limitations.
  • Ensure equipment is functioning properly and report potential problems or malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  • Lock out and tag out equipment when appropriate.
  • Submit high-quality images and documentation promptly to the Picture Archiving and Communication System, ensuring image quality, correct labeling, and complete patient data and history.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, and other departmental areas.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
