Requirements
  • The candidate must have completed an ACGME-accredited pediatric anesthesiology fellowship.
  • The candidate must be board certified or board eligible in anesthesiology.
  • The candidate must be eligible for an unrestricted medical license to practice in Tennessee.
  • The candidate must maintain active unrestricted privileges at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Responsibilities
  • Perform patient-care duties according to established standards, scopes of care, policies, procedures, and patient-specific protocols.
  • Obtain informed consent, collect medical, family, and social histories, perform physical examinations, order diagnostic studies, interpret patient data, diagnose disease and disease stage, identify treatment, monitor treatment response, facilitate referrals, support patients and families, and provide follow-up to health care providers.
  • Prescribe medications and write drug orders in accordance with clinical privileges.
  • Provide consultation to nursing staff and physicians regarding clinical care, discharge, difficult medical management cases, drug usage, and procurement requirements.
  • Evaluate prescription medicine needs and consider alternative techniques for patient care.
  • Discuss patient care and prescription medicines with primary physicians, patients, and families.
  • Provide reports to third-party providers and subspecialists and participate in clinical care teams.
  • Comply with clinical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations.
  • Directly supervise assigned staff, including performance, scheduling, continuing education, and work assignments.
  • Participate in performance appraisals and provide opportunities for assigned staff development.
  • Implement and maintain ongoing education for clinical staff.
  • Facilitate clinical experiences of Postdoctoral Fellows, promote communication between clinic staff and fellows, and participate in ongoing fellow assessment.
  • Participate in continuing education for nurse practitioners and other health care providers.
  • Ensure compliance with HCFA billing guidelines and other regulatory requirements.
  • Submit required information and reports and develop mechanisms to monitor compliance and quality.
  • Collaborate with clinic staff to resolve operational issues.
  • Develop department-operation reports and provide periodic status reports to the Department Chair.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and assess age-specific patient data and needs for infants and toddlers, school-age children, and adolescents.
  • Participate in detecting, reporting, and improving systems to prevent patient-care incidents and improve patient safety and quality.
  • Perform other related duties assigned or directed to meet department and institutional goals.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
