Position Overview

The Department of Physics at the Ohio State University announces an opening for a tenure-track faculty hire in theoretical/computational biological physics. Candidates who incorporate machine learning approaches into their research program are especially encouraged to apply. The appointment is effective in Autumn 2026 at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  We envision a candidate who has a strong potential for excellence in all aspects of scholarship, collaborates with the broad life science research community across campus, and is an active member of major research efforts at the Ohio State University, such as the Center for RNA Biology, the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Molecular Biophysics Training Program, and the Center of Microbiome Science.

Performance Objectives

Applicants should demonstrate the potential to be a recognized leader in the field of biological physics who will develop a productive, well-funded, and internationally prominent research program. Successful candidates will be expected to:

• foster cross-disciplinary research with sustained impact;

• develop and maintain an extramurally funded research program;

• have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring;

• contribute to the teaching (graduate and undergraduate) and service missions of the University.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required: Candidates must hold a PhD in Physics or a closely related field.  Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a welcoming community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values (see below).

Desired: Candidates with an established research record are invited to apply.
