- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or above
- 5+ years' of engineering design and analysis experience
- Experience with measurement systems, such as CMM, laser tracker, metrology and scanning tools for dimensional verification of machined components, as well as spatial measurements
- Experience with machine shop environment and precision machining of high strength and tough materials
- Familiarity with CAM process/software and G code
- Advanced cad skills in NX, both in modeling and drawings; understanding of GD&T and spatial tolerancing on digital measurement systems
- Able to communicate effectively in a team and a fast-paced environment, making well informed decisions
- Experience with selection and use of Neutron shielding materials
- Exposure to welding processes
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call
- Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
- Develop the preliminary design and perform the structural analysis using Ansys
- Support procurement in the preparation and execution of the manufacturing contracts
- Travel to vendors to review the progress and resolve any issues
- Develop technical specifications, assembly procedures and documentation necessary to fabricate and install the parts
- Work closely with design team and maintain regular contact with the selected vendors to provide them with necessary technical support
- Enforce observance of the required quality standards and securing documentation and processing of the NCR’s
- Be instrumental in understanding best practices and effective support of the manufacturing process
- Offer insight and creative ideas about designed features and machining processes that can meet the basic requirement, with quality, cost of manufacturing and lead time in mind
