Requirements
  • A minimum of a master's degree in a field related to physician assistant practice or the education of physician assistant students is required.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants is required.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Washington state is required.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a practicing clinician is required.
  • Experience in physician assistant education, such as lecturing, precepting, or serving as core physician assistant faculty, is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered education and cultivating belonging among diverse student and patient populations is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills are required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion are required.
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications, including word processing, email, spreadsheets, and databases, is required.
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the physician assistant profession is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, review, and revise the program's mission statement, goals, and competencies.
  • Serve on the admissions committee, including selecting applicants for admission.
  • Coordinate, teach, and instruct courses based on areas of content and clinical expertise.
  • Provide continuous development, maintenance, and evaluation of didactic courses and clinical rotation sites.
  • Facilitate small-group discussion sessions and participate in simulation, physical-diagnosis, and skills laboratories.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document student performance to ensure successful completion of course criteria.
  • Assist in developing and implementing remediation plans for students in the didactic and clinical years.
  • Advise and mentor students and participate in retention and academic-progression activities.
  • Design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate the curriculum.
  • Participate in clinical-site development and monitoring, including site visits during clinical rotations.
  • Participate in continuous quality-improvement activities and use programmatic data to support program enhancement.
  • Participate in all aspects of program administration.
  • Assist the Program Director in overall management of the Physician Assistant Program and ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Program Director in developing, implementing, and continuously evolving the Physician Assistant Program.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the applicant admissions process, including application review, interviews, and selection.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of student-success initiatives, academic progression, early identification of learners requiring support, and remediation processes.
  • Coordinate individualized remediation plans with faculty and university resources for students who do not meet expected academic or professional standards.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of summative-assessment processes.
  • Perform additional assignments at the direction of the Program Director.
