  • Must be a full-time enrolled student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited U.S. college/university
  • Must be able to complete a minimum of four to six months or a maximum of twelve months commitment
  • Must be able to complete forty hours per week
  • Must currently reside within the continental United States
  • Degree programs considered include Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees
  • Major programs typically considered include all Engineering majors
Responsibilities
  • Utilize knowledge of Materials Science, Materials Engineering or Analytical Chemistry principles and practices to identify and advance solutions to achieve design, manufacturing, and quality goals
  • Work cross-functionally on projects that require materials and fluids guidance on topics such as material and process selection, failure analysis, chemical and microstructural characterization, chemical metrology, and process pertaining to manufacturing and quality issues
  • Utilize the core relationships between structure, composition, and processing to optimize performance of the component or fluid within its system
  • Apply the principles of surface engineering to manipulate wear, strength, and corrosion resistance of components
  • Evaluate component requirements regarding form and function to identify base material and processing options
  • Select manufacturing route, material and process based on best-fit option aligned to requirements
  • Use spectroscopy methods, microstructural evaluation, mechanical property measurements, non-destructive inspection methods, and specialized tools regarding wear and corrosion on in-process, tested, or field-returned parts or fluids
  • May include activities in analytically investigating product or manufacturing problems and recommending appropriate actions for problem resolution and/or optimization
  • Supervised execution using your understanding of fundamental Physics and Chemistry to understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate action and documenting problem resolutions
  • Actively collaborating with key stakeholders and colleagues, communicating analysis results to impact and support the successful advancement of projects
  • Using tools related materials science and chemistry such as SEM, Optical Microscopy, Chemical Spectroscopy methods, X-ray diffraction and radiography techniques, Magma or other process simulation tools, Wear testing, Magnetic Particle, Eddy Current and other NDE methods
  • Knowledge of Industry Standards

This industrial-grade equipment will allow students to perform hands-on diagnostics, tear downs, and rebuild exercises, ensuring they are familiar with the modern technologies and systems used across the industry today. This expansion of the Equipment for Education program allows students to perform hands-on diagnostics and rebuilds on the same technology used in the field today. Rose-Hulman President Robert A. Coons says the collaboration ensures graduates are workforce-ready by bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world application.

Alstom acquires Cummins' hydrogen fuel cell tech to accelerate zero-emission train deployment

Alstom has acquired hydrogen fuel cell technology and expertise from Cummins, positioning itself as a leader in green rail mobility. The acquisition enables the French rail manufacturer to develop and deploy hydrogen-powered trains with greater control over product development, maintenance and service delivery. Hydrogen trains offer zero emissions, long-distance capabilities and rapid refuelling, addressing limitations of traditional electrification in remote or costly routes. The technology has already been tested extensively by railway operators in Germany, Italy and France. By internalising fuel cell research, manufacturing and maintenance, Alstom aims to reduce costs, improve reliability and accelerate adoption of hydrogen trains. The move supports global climate goals whilst making sustainable rail transport more economically viable and competitive against diesel and electric alternatives.

Integrated power solutions company Cummins on April 10 launched its battery energy storage system (BESS) offering for the Southern African market, with its South African head office in Midrand set to host a C1500B5ZE BESS unit. Cummins urges shareholders to reject governance proposals ahead of May meeting

Cummins has urged shareholders to reject proposals on reviewing charitable giving risks and separating the board chair and CEO roles ahead of its 12 May annual meeting. The governance push follows strong financial results in the company's Distribution and Power Systems segments, driven by data centre backup power demand. The Indiana-based engine manufacturer reported record performance in those divisions, offsetting weakness in North American truck markets. Cummins' investment narrative centres on its traditional engine business funding a transition to cleaner power whilst data centre demand supports results. The company's narrative projects $41.9 billion in revenue and $4.8 billion in earnings by 2029, requiring 7.6% annual revenue growth. However, some analysts forecast revenues falling to $30.8 billion with earnings of $2.4 billion, highlighting divergent views on the company's outlook.

Santa Fe Children's Museum selected for STEM education partnership with Cummins Inc. SFCM News: SANTA FE - Santa Fe Children's Museum (SFCM) has announced its selection as one of 20 children's museums to participate in a STEM education initiative funded by Cummins Inc. and administered by the Association of Children's Museums (ACM). Through this partnership, Santa Fe Children's Museum will receive $10,000 to develop and deliver innovative science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programming (STEM) designed to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers and innovators in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico. This initiative supports Cummins READY(TM), the company's global education strategy to advance high-quality, equitable STEM education for everyone - from early childhood through adulthood. Cummins READY(TM) has a goal to help at least one million learners and workers get on a pathway to education and career success by 2030. "Research shows that 92% of boys and 97% of girls will lose interest in STEM if they are not immersed in these subjects before fifth grade," said Danette Howard, PhD, Global Director of Education and Corporate Responsibility at Cummins Inc.
