Job Summary
Manage the overall relationship among various workers compensation service vendors, brokers and Medline to ensure proper handling of all work-related injuries that are compensable under various workers compensation jurisdictions. Responsible for cost-effective handling of all claims. Manage resources, activities and outcomes associated with workers compensation claims made against Medline Industries, Inc., and its subsidiaries, including but not limited to vendor management, vendor selection, broker coordination employee inquiries and management inquiries
Job Description
Responsibilities:
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all workers compensation claims by all employees and management to the appropriate vendor or state agency.
Represent the Worker Compensation program to the Safety Manager/Committee for prevention to ensure a safer working environment for employees.
Provide advice and counsel regarding claims management, claim compensability and/or settlement strategies with Medline, TPAs, nurse case managers and defense attorneys.
Drive and assist in continuous improvement health and safety programs to reduce risk.
Drive solutions designed to control overall workers compensation program costs and risks. Makes recommendations on process improvements, settlements, denials, and vendor/policy changes.
Resolve problem claims or violation of company policies to senior management for correction.
Establish and track metrics related to workers compensation.
Accountable for vendor performance. Monitor vendors to make sure they are actively managing Medline’s claims and are working in the best interest of the employee and Medline.
Serves as primary employer contact for various outside service providers (TPAs, investigators, lawyers, medical providers) to ensure resolution with outstanding bills, documentation gathering and information sharing.
Oversee training to management on injury reporting, drug testing and alcohol screening. Ensure compliance with all related company policies and practices. - Management responsibilities include:
Day-to-day operations of a group of employees.
May have limited budgetary responsibility and usually contributes to budgetary impact;
Interpret and execute policies for departments/projects and develops. Recommend and implement new policies or modifications to existing policies. Provide general guidelines and parameters for staff functioning.
Hiring staff, recommending pay increases, performing performance reviews, training and development of staff, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies. Education - Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field. Work Experience - At least 4 years of experience processing Worker Compensation claims. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities - Experience applying extensive knowledge of worker’s compensation laws and specific state laws. - Experience with third party claims management systems. - Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers, including meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using AVERAGE function, merging and centering cells, printing centered page and/or creating a pivot table).
Experience in the indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other members of a team.
Position requires up to 15% travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 2 years of experience leading a Corporate Worker Compensation program.
Experience negotiating with outside vendors, including negotiating contracts, prices, resolving service issues and reconciling differences.
Bilingual (Spanish).
