Requirements
  • Graduate of a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited nursing program with a master's degree in Nursing, for nurse practitioner candidates.
  • National certification by a recognized Advanced Practice Registered Nurse certification center, for nurse practitioner candidates.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia, for nurse practitioner candidates.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification, with additional Advanced Life Support training at the department's discretion.
  • At least three years of experience in Vascular Surgery.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree as a Physician Assistant, for physician assistant candidates.
  • Graduate of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant-approved Physician Assistant training program, for physician assistant candidates.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, for physician assistant candidates.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure by the West Virginia Board of Medicine or West Virginia Board of Osteopathic Medicine, for physician assistant candidates.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • Ability to lift, move, stoop, reach, position patients, and carry patients, materials, and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
  • Ability to work closely with others, work protracted or irregular hours, and work around biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased persons, hands in water, and electrical hazards associated with patient-care equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Manage inpatient advanced practice professional personnel to ensure an appropriately credentialed, clinically competent, and cohesive workforce that meets patient-care needs.
  • Navigate credentialing, privileging, and facility directives at regional sites to ensure adherence to local policies.
  • Serve as a staff role model by promoting cooperative problem solving, progressive discipline, individual and group goals, delegation of division duties, coaching and counseling, meeting attendance, annual performance-appraisal assistance, and participation in division activities.
  • Assist in developing and implementing educational programs for professional and support staff, including new-employee orientation, in-service continuing education, procedural training, and new-equipment or systems training.
  • Manage inpatient personnel to ensure adequate advanced practice professional coverage in inpatient settings.
  • Communicate with medical staff, patients, staff, and other departments to identify problems and support timely problem resolution and quality-care delivery.
  • Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other personnel regarding problem identification and resolution.
  • Disseminate necessary information to staff and others through written and verbal communication in conjunction with Heart and Vascular Institute leadership and staff.
  • Work with leadership staff and physicians to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and quality-care delivery through the Performance Improvement process.
  • Communicate employee concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate care delivery in accordance with Standards of Practice and Standards of Care.
  • Collaborate with medical staff at assigned facilities to ensure that advanced practice professional care follows local and regional medical staff procedures.
  • Facilitate personnel's professional development and oversee and participate in staff orientation, training, and continuing education.
  • Direct and monitor the instruction, supervision, and evaluation of students and new employees.
  • Maintain personal and professional growth through workshops, seminars, in-service education, and monitoring staff orientation plans.
  • Identify current and anticipated departmental educational needs and collaborate on departmental education plans, including process and outcome evaluation and staff participation.
  • Improve and maintain personal management skills through seminars, workshops, classes, and literature review.
  • Participate in research and quality initiatives.
  • Travel to regional sites as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by department leadership or the Chair of the Heart and Vascular Institute.
Desired Qualifications
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner credentials.
  • Master's degree as a Physician Assistant.
