Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related engineering field.
  • At least 10 years of power systems engineering experience across generation, storage, or transmission and distribution, including at least 3 years as a senior or final technical authority such as an owner's engineer, lead or chief engineer, or design review sign-off authority.
  • Demonstrated engineering depth, including performing or authoritatively reviewing protection and coordination studies, arc-flash analyses, one-line designs, and medium-voltage switchgear applications, and defending that work under challenge.
  • Working command of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), IEEE 1547, UL 9540/9540A, and NFPA 855/70E/70B.
  • Practical reliability experience personally leading Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Reliability-Centered Maintenance, alarm rationalization, and root-cause investigations through implemented corrective action.
  • Commissioning or test protocol experience producing contractually enforceable results, including acceptance testing, witness authority, or performance baselines that survived an original equipment manufacturer dispute.
  • Substantial field experience with energized medium-voltage equipment and operating sites, with the ability to support crews from the field.
Responsibilities
  • Lead technical due diligence for all new asset handovers from construction, including final engineering review and binding sign-off on as-built documentation, system configurations, and commissioning data.
  • Develop, own, and maintain the fleet's master Preventative Maintenance plans, scopes of work, and technical specifications for execution by Operations and Maintenance.
  • Develop and own the departmental safety program, including site-specific electrical safety plans, Emergency Action Plans, and Lockout-Tagout procedures.
  • Own the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, alarm rationalization severity matrix, and response playbooks for Battery Energy Storage System and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Provide and approve engineering solutions for on-site modifications, retrofits, and major repairs, and lead complex root-cause analysis efforts.
  • Define capacity and round-trip efficiency test protocols and capture warranty-grade performance baselines at commissioning.
  • Define the Energy Management System and dispatch architecture between the Network Operations Center, Energy Management System, and site controller, and lead integration testing.
  • Own commissioning acceptance, including coordination of New York City Fire Department acceptance testing and Class A punch sign-off authority.
  • Identify long-term technical risks to the fleet, including component obsolescence and systemic design issues, and own mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as the primary engineering resource for Operations and Maintenance and Central Operations and act as the technical authority for all Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Author and issue technical bulletins, Standard Operating Procedures, and Maintenance Operating Procedures for complex maintenance performed by Site Operations, and define Computerized Maintenance Management System engineering data standards.
  • Define and own Asset Management design and equipment standards covering site design, equipment selection, and specifications, and ensure projects and procured equipment conform to them.
  • Engage Construction and Development through project delivery to confirm each site is designed and built to the specified requirements and standards before acceptance.
  • Start as the hands-on engineering authority, then build and lead the engineering team covering integration, maintenance, and sustainment.
  • Accept and sign off the handover Project Archive into the central repository as the binding technical record for each new asset.
  • Review each project's design and equipment selections as they develop and ensure conformance with Asset Management requirements before construction.
  • Own the lessons-learned program by converting field data and root-cause analysis findings into design-standard and equipment-selection improvements for Development and Project Execution.
  • Own the technical interface with Con Edison, including interconnection requirements, protection settings, and metering, and resolve utility engineering comments and witness conditions.
  • Coordinate with peer managers by issuing master Preventative Maintenance plans, Standard Operating Procedures, Maintenance Operating Procedures, standards, and the safety program; supplying Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, alarm philosophy, and response playbooks to Central Operations; and providing root-cause analysis findings and technical-risk items to Commercial Asset Management as warranty-claim evidence and risk-register input.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer license; New York licensure is a plus.
  • Utility-scale or distributed Battery Energy Storage System commissioning or operations experience.
  • Technical familiarity with New York Independent System Operator and Value of Distributed Energy Resources constructs, including interconnection, dispatch, and metering.
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System implementation experience.
  • Python or SQL for engineering analytics.
  • Experience building an engineering function, standards library, or maintenance program from scratch.
