Mill and Compost Crew announce partnership to launch new food recycling service in the Mid-Atlantic. News provided by. SAN BRUNO, Calif. and ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ - Mill, the company behind the award-winning food recycling system, and Compost Crew, the largest organics recycling company in the Mid-Atlantic, today announced a new partnership to expand food scrap recycling across Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The new joint offering combines Mill's innovative technology with Compost Crew's food scraps pick-up service and local composting infrastructure. Wasted food is one of the largest sources of trash, and the average American family wastes $3,000/year on food that goes uneaten. By turning household food scraps into compost that is then returned to local communities, the new Mill + Compost Crew service makes it easy for people to keep food out of landfills and participate in a system that conserves existing resources, supports sustainable agriculture, and prevents methane emissions. Households across the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area (DMV) can sign up for the new Mill + Compost Crew service. Starting from $39/month, customers receive a Mill food recycler - which dries and grinds food scraps into clean, dry grounds - plus pickups by Compost Crew either monthly or every other month. The collected grounds are processed at Compost Crew's local sites into a nutrient-rich soil amendment used on nearby farms and gardens. Households are also eligible to receive free finished compost each year as part of the program. "We are delighted to partner with Mill to develop this new offering for DMV residents," said Ben Parry, CEO of Compost Crew. "Compost Crew has helped tens of thousands of people start composting - yet hundreds of thousands of area homes still send their food waste to the landfill or incinerator, which is an inefficient use of resources and creates harmful methane emissions. Mill's technology provides an innovative alternative for people who have been hesitant to take that first step into food scrap recycling in the kitchen, while Compost Crew handles the rest." "We've long admired Compost Crew's industry-leading composting infrastructure, which allows them to compost food scraps at scale in a hyperlocal way, and return those resources back to the community. We're thrilled to introduce this new service together so more people across the DMV can reduce waste without the work," said Harry Tannenbaum, Cofounder and President of Mill. Compost Outposts - operated by Compost Crew - are modular food scrap composting sites that are built and operated in partnership with local farms and other partners around the DMV. Compost Crew trucks pick up food scraps and process them at Compost Outpost sites close to where the food scraps originated. Mill's sleek, award-winning food recycling appliance has been widely covered for its ease-of-use and ability to capture unprecedented new insights and data around food scraps separation and recovery. * Visit mill.com/dmv * Enter your address to confirm service availability * Complete your order * Receive your Mill food recycler via FedEx * Your Compost Crew bucket will arrive within a week of receiving your Mill * Set up your account to schedule and manage Compost Crew pickups About Mill Industries Inc.
